I have three lemons in my freezer from the last crop (had done so much squeezing, freezing the juice, and making all kinds of lemon desserts I was tired of it all, and threw these three in the freezer).
Now a friend wants some seeds, but I don't know if these would grow--can anyone tell me?
Are frozen meyer lemon seeds viable?
I'd doubt it, as it is a tropical fruit.
To check, take a couple of seeds, place them on a damp paper towel and put it in a zip loc. If they sprout, then you have viable seeds. If not, then the freezing probably killed the embryo.
Thanks, Melody,
Bob tried a mexican lime from our tree and popped the seeds into a pot immediately because he read that the seeds should be planted soon after gathering. Our (ungrafted) lemon and lime trees are growing side by side, but the lemons are not ripe yet. We'll do them as soon as they are ripe and see what happens.
I'm going to try your suggestion just out of curiosity. You are probably right, their being tropical.
Thanks again,
Joey
