Ipomoea Aquatica

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Another MG that I am seeking more information about.

Beth - I am hoping you will jump on here and post a couple of your bloom photos.

I am wondering how long these stems will get? How long does it take to bloom from seed? There are two starter plants in this small container. Looks like another one that I will have to transplant into a larger container.

There are many different strains of Ipomoea aquatica with varying growth habits but generally the plants grow best with generous water supply...

The plants from the colder mountains are more adapted to dryland cultivation and usually have a red or purple pigmentation of the flower, leaves and stems...dryland plants tend to be more fibrous and not quite as palatable as compared to the softer plants grown in the warmer valleys...

The strains from the warmer valleys are planted on the banks of waterways and allowed to grow along the surface of the water...these strains have little to no pigmentation of the flowers, leaves or stems...

The more water the plant is provided with , the softer and more palatable the plant parts will be for eating...

The stems may grow from 8 to 20 feet in length depending on the exact strain and growing conditions...

Perhaps Beth may have some additional feedback to share...

TTY,...

Ron
