Just talked to a lady in Fayetteville, Ga. and she said that she had lillies but they would not bloom. Does any one live near that area and woulld give me some advise for her? I only started growing them this year and have had 3 bloom. One right now is Tiger Shark. It is beautiful. Could it be her soil ? She said they are in the sun. Maybe if I can give her some information she might join Dave's hehehe.Elaine
Lilies
A couple of reasons that lilies don't bloom are:
After they bloom, the stocks are cut back while still green. The stalks need to remain to feed the bulb for next years bloom.
They need dividing. (Best done in the fall.)
Are they being fed? Lilies are heavy feeders.
Georgia has had a severe drought. Though they don't need a lot of water, they need some. Or maybe too much. I think the rule of thumb is about 1 inch of rain per week.
Thank you so much. I will call her and tell her your suggestions. What should they be fed with. Miracle grow or some other formula. Again thanks
Can you post a pic of your bloom?
My lilies are grown in borders and I fertilize the entire gardens with a delayed-slow release fertilizer in the spring. This is good for four months (Osmocote I believe is the name of it.) In addition, I use Milorganite once a month. The daylilies I also grow love it and it keeps the deer away. It is a granular fertilizer and only take a few minutes to spread on the gardens.
