Small RED Beetles devastating A & O lilies
Can't seem to find Sarah's Keeper Post (Paul) where he offered a photo of red beetle that didn't look quite like my nasty guy in my garden. (His photo was a bit larger and had a "head" and antenna's that I took literally for photo size, and noting my red beetles were just tiny oval red beetles.)
WRONG and apologies to Paul (Sarahs Keeper) as over this past weekend, the few A&O's I have left from removing (not my favorites) last fall from advice from a NH master garden with newspaper column,
I found covered worse than my usual Jap. beetle infestation on about everything. Instead of just crush and squish, I took a good look at these miniature monsters, and they DO have a head and antennas.
Paul was right on. Again my apologies to Paul, thinking I was looking at a diff. red monster.
Rest of my Black Beauties, Casa Blanca's and Muscadets (my favorites) went down the garbage disposal w/a cup of white vinegar last night. And I've rather excavated the whole area where they were and put soil on back undeveloped gardens covered with black plastic. And black plastic on top of that.
Black plastic in on the big holes where A&O's were for a couple of weeks or more. Only organic here for 2 decades, even sneaking a bit of lettuce, radish, spinach on a shady side of one home garden while we are at camp all summer, so our one day at home might make a tasty salad that we love.

Corrine, You must have some clairvoyant abilities. I've always been called Andy (middle name), Paul is my first name which I use only on official documents.
Sorry to hear about the red beetles, I try to be organic but bend a little now and then.
I'm sorry to hear about your Lilies. I'll keep squishing with an occasional spray.
