Hi Neal, While I agree with putting the full Common name in, asking folks to write in the Latin names would be a complete turn off to most especially people who are new to this sport.
Most of us try very hard to make this a comfortable place for everyone. In Bird Files all that specific information on each bird is available along with each persons guides etc.
Anyone wishing to add that information in their posts is welcome to but it would certainly it's not be required.
Have a good day Neal!

Eastern Bluebird eggs again this year!!
I was going to say something crude about pseudointellectuals, but true to my subset, I was too insecure to hit the send button.

Hi Birdie, If you have time your welcome to start another thread.
ROFLMBO!
When I want to know the Latin names I look them up in the birdfiles. I still can't wrap my tongue around a lot of them, but it helps to know what their "real" name is. Occasionally.
This forum is, for some of us, the introduction to birding. It has certainly piqued my interest and I hope that it is a hobby that I will ENJOY for the rest of my life. With the common name and the location we can look any bird up. That is good enough for me.
So sorry your thread has gotten OT Birdie......please do continue.
My problem is I am so NOT afraid to hit the send button.....
