I found this deformation...almost like galls...on some young seedlings of hoya I have. When the 'spot' is picked off, there is a 'dimple' in the swollen stem. Have you ever seen this? I have about 40 of these seedlings, and the affect is on about 1/4 of them....it is only on the end of new growth and, needless to say, the new leaves are totally deformed.
TIA
Carol
CLOSED: Have you ever seen this?...
some kind of gall?
That's what i am thinking...but the little spots look like scale.
Am taking it to the plant pathologist(at the U. of H.)tomorrow...will post results....
Actually, I found out it is a soft bodied scale...first time found in Hi...and I killed it (has not returned) with a drench of BATS.
BATS?
Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub, a really good systemic insecticide (used at a seriously diluted rate compared to what you would use on a tree or shrub)
OK. Active ingredient imidacloprid. Just had never seen it referred to as BATS...
Works great on lots of things, but not armored scale or cottony cushion scale...
