Time moves on

Auburn, NY(Zone 5b)

I saw two flocks of Canadian Geese
starting their flight south this morning.
Totally oblivious of the world happenings.
I guess this really means the end of summer.

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

that's funny because i thought i saw a flock of geese fly over my house lastnight, real early for Texas. is this some kind of sign how cold our winter is going to be? i'm scared.

Strange .......... this morning I was looking at the swallows and even some very late houise martins, all lioned up on the telephone wires, getting ready to leave for Africa.

The thought that crossed my mind was

"Do they know something I don't? Should we be heading for high ground too ?"

Paranoia has crept up on me.

Of course, Sand's right, Nature's just getting on with it. Summer's over.

Jo

Yes jo, they were all lined up here too, yesterday the skys were full of them, i cant see one today, when the swallows leave, the summer follows, mind you, with the nights getting a bit chilly now, can say i blame them, just have to wait for them to return next May, hopefully April.

southeast, NE

Centipedes are invading my house by the hundreds. I hope this isn't a sign of a rough winter.

We have had early and plentiful acorns and walnuts, a sign the locals say means an early and cold winter. Also, we have seen/heard Canada geese and crows migrating for over a week now. I will lookk forward to threturn of the migratory birds next year. Meanwhile, feeding the local birds well, and are they ever hungry!

As for me, I have stocked up on firewood, and am in the process of installing an efficient wood stove. I shall miss the fireplace.... sigh... but this stove can be run with the doors open and the firescreen in place. About 80% efficiency vs. about 10% for the fireplace.
