I've seen these in spring before. These are on ash tree leaves, but I've also seen them on black cherry tree leaves. Any ideas what they are?
CLOSED: What kind of larva eats my trees?
These are larvae of sawflies (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae); likely either the blackheaded ash sawfly (Tethida barda) or the brownheaded ash sawfly (Tomostethus multicinctus) - see http://tinyurl.com/cru5el [note that Tomostethus is misspelled "Tomostehus"].
They're all over my Texas Ash and no sign of them going away. I'm picking them off the best I can. Oddly enough, they were on an Arizona Ash (which I don't even like) first, but now just my Texas Ash, which I really love! I think it's one of those two...so thanks!
