Williston, ND

ive got some seeds off a mini strep,i cant wait to see what they grow out to be,you all do know that these seeds wont be the plants
youve grown them from, even if they like identical, seeds that come from a species will be the same but seeds that come from hybrids
arent the same ,good news though, any awesome looking plants you can name, you just have to give brenda credit or whoever you got the seeds from credit as the hybridizer, and odds are they all wont look like the parent plant either

Hi Everybody ,

This is my second post so if I seem not to know much about seeds .............well I don't :) but I have a bunch of seed pods and have not a clue on when you harvest them , do I leave them on the plant till they are dry or do I cut them off at some point , how do I know when they are done growing , I have different size pods ............. so you see I am lost in the woods without a mirror to signal with and no bread crumbs to fallow , so please if you have some thoughts your help would be very much appreciated :)

Thank you much ,

Connie Lynn

Connie, I leave my pods on the streps until they start to turn brown........gently take them off over an open envelope because once that pod turns brown and really twisted, the seeds will fall everywhere.............
I don't have a good one ready to show you right now............maybe someone else will come along.........but guess what..........I have two seed pods on Different Drummer (Nancy Block's variegated great looking plant)........I will take picture and show you that they are not ready to come off yet.........

I am not good at explaining..........also put the seeds in a little piece of tissue paper.........the first time I did it.........I lost all my seeds to the glue on the envelope as I didn't put them in the tissue paper first..............

be back in a minute

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Here are the two pods..........the one on the left is not ready to take off because she is not turning brown yet and she hasn't twisted enough.........the one on the right probably will take another 6 weeks.......anyway....

If anyone has good seedpod ready to take off, will you show Connie how?

congrates on your seedlings,if you want them to grow faster heres a trick, when they are a few days older, take a toothpick or something sharp, and gently lift the seedling, its called root tickling, and it will make your plants grow faster, need to find out if you do it every week
or every two weeks, ill be mrs bonnie knows as she grows a lot, from seed,

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I see them! They are so cute! Congratulations! How long did it take?

Got the seeds and planted them on April 20th. Used a mix of mg potting mix, perlite, and coconut coir. Sprinkled the seeds on top of a "dixie" cup and kept it in a halfway zipped zip lock under lights. None of the others in this batch have come up yet...still waiting on them.

I do, however, have some little tiny sprouts of wisemoore seeds I bought to replace the order I planted and then immediately dropped upside down on the floor! Those were planted around the 12th and sprouted 23 days later. Not bad :)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am embarrassed to show Goldleaf how few plants I got from all the seeds of her hybridizing efforts...........next time I am not going to cover the seeds with vermiculite............here is a picture of the ones I 'dumped' in one place (LOL) I do see some new ones coming up in other places......maybe there will be more..........hope so

Thanks Again!

Gail, right, next time don't cover the seeds but you have had good success anyway. You will have lots of seedlings..more than you realize when they grow bigger and you have to transplant them all ^_^.

Brenda, so very sweet of you to do this seed give away. Nothing like growing your own plants from seeds. So rewarding. I can't wait for all the progress reports from everyone!
