I wanted to share this with you all in case you have not seen or heard of this lady. Gives me chills! This is the original British version of what they call American Idol here. You might remember another performance from a Welsh man a couple of years ago that wowed the crowd, too. I just love these small town folks getting a chance to show what they can do - and they don't have to be hip, skinny, and oh, so beautiful!

Not a gardening subject, but...
Brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful voice, and what a change in the audience! People tend to be so judgmental and superficial. What a treat to see it all the way through. I'd only seen clips on the news, etc.
Thanks, KC.

What a gift, to have things like this come along now and then to give us a little something to feel good about....
That's how I felt, Sherry. And I loved the way the audience changed, too, SW.
I loved the way Simon Cowell reacted!
This is a primo example of how Simon Cowel (as much as I despise him ) thinks that just because this woman isn't a "beauty queen" and doesn't fit the Hollywood "mold" couldn't possibly have any talent. At least he admitted he was wrong.
This woman has more talent in her little finger than what most of today's "stars" have all together. She has a beautiful voice and who CARES what she looks like ? I'd rather go see HER perform than the likes of todays "hot tickets".
Thanks for sharing this, Kathleen.
"Something to feel good about" indeed !
I love this too!!!! Simon's reaction is priceless, - there is also a youtube of a recording of her in 1999? singing "Cry Me a River" that is just as beautiful. It was for a charity in her hometown. Love it, "I live alone with my cat Pebbles"
"Never been kissed. That's not an advertisement." :-)
I'll look for the other video, Red.
Edited to add: Found it. Boy, is there anything she can't sing? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8r9lRJ6yHY

I think I've listened to her singing "I Dreamed a Dream" at least fifty times. Now I'll listen fifty times to "Cry Me a River" .
There is a special quality to her voice that draws the audience in. Her stage presence while she sings is terrific too.
Her story is uplifting for all of us.
She really is a great vocalist, thanks for the youtube link.
Guess that means there is still hope for me! LOL!

I told DH anyone who has done any singing in front of an audience, where you really can let your voice soar, can really appreciate the feeling that comes with that.
I haven't been able to sing since I got into my teens, but I still remember how it felt. Never sang like that, of course, but it was MY best and I loved it! I'm sure that's why people sing in the shower - it's so uplifting!
it is, I've been singing "I Dreamed a Dream" around the house (horribly, unfortunately) lol
Gee, I heard it down hear and didn't think it was so bad! LOL
That was incredible; thank you, Kathleen.
For many people song is a symbol of a type of union with the Creator. That lady puts her whole heart and soul into her singing. It shows.
Singing can help heal. Earplugs for the faint of heart are available. LOL!
