martagon suppliers

Milford, MI

I've been growing a few martagons surprisingly successfully for the last 4-5 years, and I'd like to try some more. Who are the best suppliers?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Hartle-Gilman grows many martagons http://www.geocities.com/hglil/index.html Lily Nook has several available for Fall delivery http://www.lilynook.mb.ca/Catalog/martagon.html

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Do martagons really tolerate more shade than most other lilies, and, if so, do you know how much? Also, are they always so expensive?

Poland, ME

Summerchase Gardens is now handling sales for Hartle-Gilman.

They will be inventorying this summer and listing lots in the fall. Also Minnesota hybrid Asiatics.

Martagons are very expensive because they multiply so slowly and take a long time to grow from seed. They are shade tolerant but not deep, deep shade. they do best with high overhead shade.

Thanks Maniac.

Glad you came along Mainiac ~ I had come across a link for Summer Chase that was defunct.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow, thanks Maniac and Moby. I put in some very basic martigons from Old House Gardens a few years back and have been delighted with them as they have bulked up. I put them on the north side of my house in semi-shade behind some fothergillas, and they get acidfied with Ironite in spring and fall (the folthergillas prefer it too). I've really enjoyed them, but I've never found sources with the variety here.
