Reasonably priced seedling heat mats

Chewelah, WA(Zone 5a)

It's a little late in the season to be thinking about seedling heat mats, but if anyone is looking for them, I found a source for the best price I've seen so far on Hydro-Farm's small mats, only $18.95 each. Have no idea how long that price will be effective, but here's a link in case anyone is interested:

Thanks for thinking of us!

I purchased one on ebay for $8.95. It was labeled as a reptile heater/seed starter. It was a few months ago when I got it otherwise I would tell you who the seller was.

I've used a reptile heater as a seed warming method, and it works pretty well. Just be cautious of the contact points on certain materials, as per instructions.

Oh yes, there are lots of things you can use for seed starting. Several people have mentioned water bed heaters they've picked up at yard sales, strings of Christmas lights. I sometimes use just a 60 watt bulb in one of those clip-on lights with the reflector pointing up, positioned so it's just a bit underneath the seed flat (have to be REALLY careful watering, tho). I like the HydroFarm mats, tho, because they're simple to use and the company stands behind their product 100%. They have replaced defective mats for me with no questions asked--didn't even ask for a receipt.

I would love to have one, thanks for the lead!

One thing I have found to be really handy is plugging those heat mats (I have a BUNCH of them) into a power strip with an on/off switch, which our local hardware store sells for about $3.00. My greenhouse gets really hot during the day, so I turn off the mats till evening. Makes for a lot less plugging and unplugging (one of the heat mats they replaced got fried just plugging it in).
