What is the ideal soil temperature for good germination?
Seeds are soaked for 2 days and when they have started to sprout, they are planted.
I searched the archives but didn't find info about soil temperature.
Thanks,
Badger
Ideal soil temperature for germination
BADGERTALK, if you are talking about the garden store varieties, then 70 to 75 degrees F is fine. But that level of continued heat can make them get too long and lanky. If they all germinate in the same week, You might want to discontinue the heat and put them up closer to the light source for a few weeks to strengthen them up a little. Never make them soggy wet!!!
If you are talking about world wide species you are trying to save during climate changes, well then , Only God Knows about them. Frank
Thanks for the info. I'm putting in bedding plants and was thinking about putting morning glory seeds in the hanging baskets. I have not seen any wild morning seeds that have germinated so I guess it is still too early.

For the bottom heat to count , it needs to be at least 5 degrees above room temp, if that is the best you can do. In a green house, the night time temp drops, and this exhaults the important input of the bottom heat. During a 24 hour period, the coolest period has the bottom heat. In the home, the thermostat is usually set at 70 degrees. What good is it if the bottom and the top are the same temp. NO GOOD AT ALL!...= ROTTING.
Bottom heat, without a cool top is meaningless. It is the temp differential between the top and bottom that IS the magic. Bottom heat in a windowsill is great, but those long narrow heat mat strips for wingosills, cost the same as a wide one, and are still around $30.
This kind of bottom heat really means watering every day, and hopefully without city water.
Good luck with all this. Frank
