can this be done? has anyone done this before? I'm all about recycling things around the house, and if this is possible, would love to try it. if any of you have done this in the past or are currently doing it, would love to get your input!
Egg cartons As Seed Start Trays?
yup I have done and done it well. Do not use the styro ones.
D
why not the styro foam ones?
While waiting for Iris' response I thought of the benefit of using recycled cardboard ones is they can be cut apart and planted without disturbing the little plants. I guess you have to cut them apart carefully though.
well, I guess that would be an advantage, but I wouldnt see a reason not to use the styrofoam ones if you have them, you just wouldnt be able to place them in ground.
I haven't done egg cartons, but yogurt containers all get holes poked in the bottom, a lot of containers that have black plastic bottoms and clear tops (like for rotisserie chicken?) end up as mini-greenhouses for seed starting. There's lots you can recycle!
I use the clear plastic egg cartons and they last for years, I think their perfect because they make a mini greenhouse ..

I ended up buying a peat pellet tray, so far so good as I have sprouting veggies now.
