Send Pugzley some pickles....

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

well darn, wish I'd known about the bleach at Christmastime when I made tea in old pickle jars and guess what the tea ended up tasting like? BLECCHHH

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Don't ever store jars or plastic containers with the lids on em'. Keeps the smell in. Let 'em air out, topless.

Lake Elsinore, CA

I do love pickes. :)

Do to....Do to!

Been working hard on my day job in the office! Gotta earn more power tool money! Bought the 4-pc Craftsman Laser set and a 7.25" sliding miter saw this weekend. Gotta pay off the credit card bill. My President (and Ms. Orman) don't want me carrying all that credit card weight!

I was debt-free for 15 years before I met and married my DH, and then maxed it out again with our wedding (and I was only helping him out-- don't even want to see what he owes on that one, 'cause he went to Jared!). I just paid off my credit card in full earlier this year, and I am keeping CLOSE tabs on how high it creeps upward!

So -- get to work, Linda!

Hugs and Crosses!

So what have you built with all those wonderful new tools?

Your compost sifter? Your vertical garden?

"Curious minds........"

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Bubba! My power saw delivered yesterday. Just LMK what my apprentice schedule looks like!

Oh. And yah know that side of my yard right behind the garage where all the sunshine hits that YOU said would make the perfect garden patch? Well, I went home yesterday and it was leveled off for a concrete slab. Seems the DH needs expansion room for HIS tools.....

It took all I had to not rip my tomato plants outta their EBs...

Riverdale, NJ(Zone 6a)

GG: Maybe its time you talk to DH about how you have noticed that the sun hits there all day long, and how uncomfortable he will be. Offer to help him level a nice patch in the shade.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Wulfie, but the slab is not for him to sit on -- it's for him to park MORE tools on 'cause he can't slip a piece of paper into the garage it's so packed...

Missouri City, TX

Maybe you could talk him into extendiung the garage another 10 feet of so and let you help with the construction.

You would learn how to use all your tools and be able to "build-in" your vetical garden at the same time.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Nice try guys. Today I learned the DH has extended the slab along the back of the garage by another 2 ft. For a total extension of 4 ft. Into the yard. He's not gonna rip the rear garage wall out but will just add 3 walls to make a storage room. Concrete coming Monday and all is not lost. I've negotiated a 6' x 17' slab in my potting corner so I won't have to work in the mud. And, I'm having it poured where I'll be left with a 6' x 18' line of dirt parallel to that slab right along the south fenceline. How many of ya'll can guess what's gonna happen after that slab gets poured? LMK what you think could, should, or will happen. I'll send a small prize for either the correct or the BEST answer! Linda

Johnson City, TN(Zone 6b)

My guess....your chainsaw and your DH goes missing. No No. I don't deserve a prize. But it all just comes together. Or maybe I watch too many csi.

Riverdale, NJ(Zone 6a)

Personally I would negotiate for a bit of that behind the garage space to become a potting shed, or else Devota would be right! Muuuhahahahahah!!!!!

Johnson City, TN(Zone 6b)

For real this time G [aka toolgirl.] I wonder if you plan to put in some stackers but then I don't know if this is the wall where you have all your EBs. Give us a hint? D

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

GG's greenhouse is my guess...

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Correction. Its the north fence. The tomato EBs are on the south fence. A hint, huh? Ummm. The laser saw will be coming out of the box. And do ya'll know what the concrete guy used to cut the frame boards? The very same 7.25 laser saw I just bought! Its gonna be a gigantic garage sale one day.

Johnson City, TN(Zone 6b)

I won't get a wink of sleep tonight...a 6 foot by 18 foot slab of concrete against a north fence....I know I know! You're building me a an artists' studio!
Are you building a greenhouse as was suggested?

If the husband comes up missing, the slab may need to be excavated!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Hmmm... A little small for an Olympic sized pool. You'd need to build underground for a dooms-day-bunker, so that's not it. um. How 'bout building those things for the thing from way back when you really wanted the thingies but didn't have a thing to put there?

Riverdale, NJ(Zone 6a)

You guys are having a bad influence on me.

I popped into W-mart to get a shipping envelope, and on the way out I noticed these big 19"-across tubs reduced to $4 from $8. I measured from the top of one to the top of the next one down in the stack. Almost 4". Hmmmm... That would mean a 4" reservoir. The Lowes is next door. I would need some 4" PVC pipe, some 2 inch PVC pipe and some nylon ties. My local garden store is expecting the coir on Thursday.... There's a brewing store in the next town for rice hulls... I had a HEB half-built in my head when Wulfette read my expression and dragged me from the store. Whew!!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Well, this game has ended before we got started. I came home to find that my DDH ordered too much concrete and rather than just letting it goooooo, he had it poured past the form I spent 2 hours placing to maximize the ground space along the fence. I was gonna place THREE 4 x 3' raised veggie beds there for my fall brassicas, with space left to fit one more later!! With 18" between each box so I could reach em! Now I might be able to get 2 boxes there right next to the horrible 3' Soldier plants that all the garter snakes scurry under. If they and the real snakes don't get me, the soldier will stab me in the butt every time I bend over. I'm considering watering them with bleach.... So who really got it right? Use the honor system and LMK. Linda

Crestview, FL

Gymgirl: I am laughing picturing all that, sorry. LOL
joy

Johnson City, TN(Zone 6b)

Toolgirl, give us an ARgghgggggggggggggg! [Is the DDH still alive?]

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

DDH = Dearly Departed Husband?

LOL

Johnson City, TN(Zone 6b)

Don't kill him G...Just outlive him. I didn't get it right. Don't know who did.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Hmm... seems you have planted a cement slab! Don't think that was a guess!

Johnson City, TN(Zone 6b)

Okay G, AKA toolgirl. You got time, you got ideas, you got tools. You know that old saw about when life hands you lemons? Well, if I know you, by this evening you will have reconfigured the whole thing and think it a blessing that it turned out this way. Toolgirls rule!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Now you can build a hydroponic/coir garden on top of the slab out of pipe!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Qinx, you're getting close!

D, you're right on time. And, yes, after I settled down overnight, I'm beginning to see some sugar -- or, at least some Splenda!

Hugs, All!

Gotta go work for MONEY to buy SEEDS, COIR, and to pay the WATER BILL!

Could ya'll imagine if the DH paid the water bill how dead somebo--thing might be right about now after challenging my water use...? One 'a the best calls I EVER made!
