CLOSED: Do I have a problem with this bug?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

This bug has been hanging out on a Satsuma that is currently in bloom. I would like to know if this guy is a good one or is he up to no good. I've spotted him off and on for a couple days now.

Can anyone ID him for me?

This appears to be a nymph of a bush katydid, such as those in the genus Scudderia - see http://tinyurl.com/dn5uy9 for an image, and http://tinyurl.com/c5tyw2 for more information on the Texas bush katydid
(Scudderia texensis).

The photo on the first link appeared to be the same bug but the second one is not the same. Possibly this was an immature bug but I don't think so. Need to do some more looking ~ thank you. pod

Please note that there are several species in this genus; the one I linked to was intended as an example, not as an exact match for your specimen. Also, these insects can change in appearance quite a bit as they mature.

Yes... I suspected I needed to search that genus. We do have the winged katydid here. I see many of them. This one is just different but I don't think immature. I am doing more searching. Thanks.

Dear Podster,

This is an immature katydid [a nymph], as it has no wings. It is probably a member of the family Tettigonidae [long-horned grasshoppers and katydids].

Sincerely,

Thanks much for the explanation of it being immature. It hung around those blooms for quite a few days but didn't seem to bother the plant or blooms. I was curious if it would have been harmful but apparently not. Thanks all.
