I have a couple of spots on the east side of the porch where I would like to plant a white blooming shrub that stays under 4 feet in heighth and is evergreen preferably. Any azalea cultivars that you might know? I have seen the osmanthus delavayi which is really nice. Any other ideas? I did already plant a couple of white deutzias so that is why I prefer evergreen.
Looking for a small white blooming shrub
Several daphne cultivars may fit the bill.
Also, may consider Klehm's hardy gardenia. It may be hardy in your zone, not sure.
I have daphnes and love em; so the hardy gardenia is intriguing. I have seen them in garden centers too. Thanks, weerobin.
I, too, vote for the gardenias, though I also love a gardenia of a different sort---'Hardy Gardenia' azalea. Very, very beautiful, and I find it blooms more reliably than the gardenia. The gardenia smells better, though, which might sway you one way or the other, since this is near your porch...

ooooh, I like this ; the best of both. I don't think a true gardenia would be hardy here. Joann
I think the hardier gardenia cultivars are OK even into zone 7 so you may be OK with them.
I have a couple of the "Kleim's hardy" (sp?) gardenias here in zone 7a. Though still small, they've survived a couple hard winters, so should do well for you in 8a, Lenjo. The flowers are small but lovely and have the wonderful scent.
I love my banana shrub! It's starting to bloom now. It's evergreen and stays manageable. It does fine next to the house.
