Sweet potatoe vine in tipsy planter. I grew this last year and the heat really did it in. I went to clean out the pots to put new plants/seeds in and found several nice sized potatoes! LOL! Now I know how potatoes grow! This does make a really stunning vine! I really like the lighter color leaves. :-)
Other vines ...
I also went a little overboard on the Spanish Flag. I think I planted a few too many in this one little planter. BTW - Half of these are the typical Spanish Flag vines and the other half are "Citronella" Lobata vines. I can't remember who sent me the latter? Perhaps Ronnie or Jackie? The regular seeds came from Onalee's last year. I got a 100% germination on all of these.
I am growing Sweet alyssum in the ground planters with some of the vines. I am growing that as a filler plant in with all the LYK sprouts as well. (Never mind the marker that says Purple Tie-dye! Lol) I've busted the lip on this large pot. I will never buy these cheap plastic pots again. They crack and break so easy ... especially when relocating. There are other inexpensive plastic pots that hold up so much better.
Becky - the busted lip just adds character!
Your plants are looking great!
Thanks Nichole! :-)
Let's see how long all these vines stay nice before the Rust fungus gets them! LOL! I know it is just a matter of time ...
I have plenty of busted lipped pots... lol... yours is beautiful :)... love all the seedlings, and I'm a big fan of the sweet potato vine as well

Hey Brittany! Thanks for sharing the love of the sweet potatoe vine! Definitely a nice looking vine!!! Maybe we need to start a broken pot society! LOL!
Those look great in the topsy turvy pots...!! Last year I couldn't find any Blackie starts at all.. wow they seem to grow really fast too. If I find some this year, I'll try them in the pots I stacked last year, they are still empty.
Joeswife, those look like they filled in really nice.
A.
P.S. here, if you don't see me around for a few days, I'm attempting to get our Taxes done and will start on them today..lol, there's nothing like waiting till the last minute.

joeswife,
Oh gosh, I'd take you up on that offer, but my house is filled with veggies, tomatoes, gourd, mgs seedlings, and others, I don't have the room... maybe I'll take you up on it in another month if I can't find any locally.. Thank you so much for the offer, I really appreciate it. I just love the color on the flowers of this particular batatas..
I have 'Marguerite' and 'Blackie' that amazingly made it through the winter, freezes and all... love them...
Brittany
Debra - Beautiful! Love what you've grown in the past.
Y'all have to take a look at the I. batata "Marguerite" plantfile photos! Really amazing how beautiful this plant is: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53068/
And the Blackie plantfile: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53067/
Do these vines produce seeds or just tubers (sweet potatoes)? I'd love to have a Blackie! Both are such gorgeous vines!
