One Memory

the Aliens are coming, they're going to wipe out all but one memory..which one do you keep?
Mine; Easter picnic (1980's) with nearly my whole family; mom, dad, husband, boys, gmother, extended family. Missing were my brothers and sister; but seemed to be there in spirit.

It's funny how at 53 years old, ONE memory comes to the surface. Here goes:

It's mid-afternoon on a beautiful summer day. It's sweltering hot and a gentle breeze is blowing, almost imperceptible. I'm sitting with my grandmother in the shade on the front lawn's swing . Everything is absolutely calm. I am 4 or 5 years old. She made us a rootbeer float in one of the tall footed glasses she keeps for company. There are 2 straws in the glass. While hardly swinging at all, we are looking at the sunlight shining on the Châteauguay river's rippling surface and creating thousands of gold and diamond-like reflections. She told me heaven must look something like that all the time. It was a magical moment.

She passed on 10 years later and I do hope that heaven looks like that: pure contentment.

Take care, all.

The day my daughter was born. Her eyes were wide open as she surveyed the delivery room. The doctor said she was beautiful.

In my house nobody drank a bottle for long and so I think I must have been quite young.

I'm in my crib. It isn't pitch dark because I can see my bottle. The milk is not cold but it isn't warm either. The door opens and something soft hits me with a thud. That is all I remember - the next morning there is a stuffed orange and black cat in the crib with me. I loved that stuffed cat. That is the earliest memory I have, and I do not have other memories from that period at all. I think after that I zoom up to maybe 10 or 11 in the memory dept.

Now, that's a great subject for another equally interesting thread, missingrosie: your earliest memory for each of your senses: smell, sight, touch, taste and hearing. Is anyone game to start the thread?

Sylvain.

Sounds good - I'll recycle mine.
