Eyeglasses input wanted; inexpensive online ordering, too!

Howdy Folks!
This post is to serve two ways!

1.) I've recently gotten to the point of needing "distance glasses" (nearly flunked my drivers license renewal test!). For someone who's never needed glasses for quite a few decades I'm quite the newbie when it comes to just what is what, and why.

2.) I recently discovered a website that sells prescription glasses extremely cheap, have a good reputation, and offer a fast service and thought ya'll might like to know. More on that in a second.

My recent eye exam showed I needed glasses for seeing distances in some settings (driving). When I went back to get glasses made the next thing I knew I was ordering trifocals. The salesperson (not the eye doc) said, 'single lens glasses will help with driving but when you look down you may not be able to see your speedometer...'. Next thing I knew we were discussing bifocals, trifocals, special tints, anti-glare, progressive lens, automatic sun/shade lenses, etc.
I ended up getting trifocals (supposedly to be able to go from desk work, to computer screen as well as be used for distance). I hate 'em. :>( And I really miss the money I spent on them, too. $$

That brings me to this point. Zenni Optical is an online company several folks have told me about, have ordered from them, and they offer made-to-order glasses for as little as $8.95 plus shipping. I'm going to order some single lens glasses (for distance, like the eye doc suggested to begin with) but now I'm reading about various choices...

...Full rims, half rims, metal alloy, titanium, spring-loaded, ultralight, memory temples. Yikes! (And yes, they have more expensive glasses depending on frames and features.)

Could some of ya'll that are more familiar with glasses clue me in to what works, what is needed, what is nice to have, etc, before I go blow more money? At this point I know I like the bigger lens because it keeps me from feeling I'm peering through something (keyhole?) and I don't see the edges of the frames so much. Other than that I'm open to suggestions.

By the way, the online store is http://zennioptical.com/cart/home.php for those of you who might like to check into a really good place to get inexpensive but nice glasses.
And no, I don't work for them but realize I sure sound like an advertisement!

Thanks a gazillion!
