I ordered this plumeria last June ,it was supposed to be "diamond of the first water" bought on ebay for $30.50 from 123 yaowaluk who said it will be shipped from Davie FL as that's were it is ,and it was shipped from Davie. It was my first time collecting Plumerias and not knowing they could be purchased from Daves Garden member i bought some on e-bay ,also from Marlene, punta gorda, buds and blooms etc.I seem to have a problem with Asian orders both times there were problems so no more. I hope someone can tell me the name of this one.
could anyone ID this Plumeria.
hi pat,
it is hard to identify plumeria from blooms. there are various factors to consider. for instance, if you took this pic recently one must consider that because of the cooler weather and less sunlight that the color isn't fully there. it could just be a common cutting that someone gave a fancy name. i always recommend that people just stick with the name that came with the plumeria. it's just easier that way...
Hello Pat,
There are 100s of new varieties that come from Thailand each year. Some are renames of know varieties, but most come from seedlings. These seedlings are given a name by the Thai person who owns them and sold as such. So what you have, is most likely, Diamond of the First Water"....which totally sounds like a name given by the Thai. So I would also, as Dete suggested, keep the name as it is. Just my opinion.

I saved a copy of the photo on ebay so i would know what it looks like, yesterday i googled it and it looks like the picture i have and nothing like the one i have. Thank you both for answering.
Hello Pat,
I did not understand the comment "it looks like the picture i have and nothing like the one i have" so I googled it also, and in my opinion it does look similar to your photo, minus the splashes. I bet when it gets warmer, as Dete was refering to, you will see the the center expand and get more intense and the pink band will darken around the outside. You may get unlucky and even get the splashes.

I'm laughing about the splashes......................I hope you are right,is it possible for the yellow centers to turn red? I printed out the photo they said it was,but it's not like the Inflo that just bloomed.
I have just been on ebay to see if i could find the seller and it's 95% asian thats selling Plumerias, i won't buy again.
The picture, of the variety you spoke of(dotfw), that I found on flickr had yellow/orange centers, not red. I don't know if it is possible to go from yellow to red, but I do kow that all color in plumeria become more intense as it heats up. What are your day and night time temps now?
Buying plumeria from Ebay in general is risky, and you will get ripped off from just as many people here in the US as in Asia....you just have to know who to buy from and know when importing plants you have to expect some loss....10-14 days is a long time for a plant to stay in a box and be thrown around.
As an example of how drastic a flowers color can change this is Penang Peach below 105.
Wow thats a big change with the temps, i'm 80's and 65-70 at night but next week Tuesday dropping into the 40's.What is flickr ?
Hello Pat,

i still don't understand flickr...............theres a naked guy on there.............lol..........no flowers
davie - put some clothes on! :)
I think i have found the name for my Plumeria,i was looking in my" Plumeria Culture" book and mine is identical to "slaughter pink"
you might want to look at more pics of slaughter pink. it just doesn't look like the slaughter pink petal.
Are the branches almost as thick as your arm? What does it smell like? I third that....I don't think it is Slaughter pink.
the branches are slim, the scent is very faint. I forgot to mention it is grafted, and not grafted very well.Would the graft have anything to do with the blossom colour? I think Slaughter pink is a really bad name for a Plumeria.
the rootstock doesn't pass any physical traits to the cutting grafted on to it.
sometimes plumeria will carry the name of a person. slaughter happens to be that persons last time. i do agree though that it's not the best name imho. LOL
Hello Pat and my Dave friends..
I rejoin the forum because a little birdie told me about this post and another one..
Ok ok I miss my friends on here lol (waves at Clare,Mike,Dr Kukiat,Brad the Freak,Hetty, and others I can't fit all the names here..)
Pat 123yaowaluk is my partner in Thailand and this plumeria if you bought it from her it came from me in Davie..
I don't see a sale of the Diamond in June but on July 3 2008 I ship one to a Maureen is that you?
This photo looks like the Diamond at a young age or a early spring bloom..
The little slit in the petals tells me this as you can see in my photo..
Like everyone said in here Heat and the time of the year have a great bearing on the flower size and color..
The nutrients you feed your plant and the pot size also make a huge difference..
With the exception of the Aztec Gold,Flamingo,L.Lilac,Miami Rose and others varieties early spring blooms will tend to be smaller or the colors will be lighter..
This is also true when you have a dry winter follow by a dry spring as we are seeing in Florida..
This last winter was a long cool one for some Floridians and this will bring many blooms for everyone this spring so good news there..
Anyways give it more time and make sure you stay ahead of her with the pot size and feed her well..

Welcome back Robert! I miss you too.
Speaking about "Diamond of the First Water" plumeria, I first heard this name from ebay years ago and I have tried to find out what this Thai plumeria was for several days. I finally found out its Thai name which is "Phet Nam Nueng".
Phet = Diamond; Nam = Water; Nueng = First
As the name was translated from Thai to English directly word by word, its true meaning is lost.
Phet Nam Nueng means The finest quality Diamond. The word can be used to describe a person or just about anything of excellency. When it refers to athlete, it means the very good athlete.
Kukiat
