After dealing with one faulty DVR after another from our cable company, I broke down and bought a TIVO. Uh oh. Read the instructions and it says, "When the installer comes..............." Yikes, what installer? I thought I could be the installer, you know, plug this in here, and that in there, bingo, instant TIVO. Apparently this is not the case. Now, how do I find an installer? TV repair guy? Do they know this stuff? I also have to call the cable co and get some magic numbers from them so it will be compatible with their digitizing. I think. Oh help,. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Help needed with TIVO
I did it myself. I don't recall the part about an installer.
Sorry no help.
The end to this tale is, after we got started on the installation, following the instructions, we had to go buy two more hookup parts, cost $94, and then there's the monthly fee for service, $13, unless you buy lifetime at $400, and I figured this was not saving me anything at all so I sent it back and will just let the cable co keep replacing the DVR when it fails. So no more help needed.
Who's your cable co, Shiela? We have Time Warner and so far the DVR's have been okay.
Time Warner. Cable guy came out and fixed everything!! Got the credtit back right away on the TIVO, too, minus the shipping.
Well, that's good! We did trade our DVR in with the cable company because of some issue. It was nice because the newer ones had higher capacity.
It turned out that it was more a power issue with the cable than the DVR, the pixilating was caused by insufficient boost to the tv. We had used splitters to get cable to two other small tvs, and he upgraded those at no charge. Super service from TW all the time. He spotted my Organic Gardening magazine on the coffee table and we chatted a bit about mulch and compost....LOL maybe that accounts for the free splitters.
