greenhouse kits

Clatskanie, OR(Zone 9b)

A while ago, I got a call from my daughter, who was in cost co, asking me If I had seen the Cost Co greenhouse kits. No. Have any of you folks built a greenhouse from a kit????

I am ready to, but I just don't want one of those small 8' x 10' jobs.

The Cost Co kit comes in 10 x 12 and that is a good size for me. I don't want something that is going to blow away in a stout wind, or fall apart. I have sat down many times to design my own, but have considered that the the design values for waste reduction have already been taken care of in the kits.

The kits don't right off tell you what the covering is, you have to look for that, and that is work for these tired old eyes.

If you have built one, how about a little guidance about buying a commercial kit. The prices on some of them are just plain rediculus. May be designing my own would be the best way to go. Frank

Hi Frank....
i don't know what the Cost Co kits are... but i(for I read my brother) built a greenhouse from reclaimed wood etc a couple of years ago. ironically it ended up costing more in comparison to the aluminium/polycarbonate kit that i got at the end of last year(in a sale).... however, having done both...if i needed another greenhouse i would build it myself from reclaimed materials as the upside of buildng your own is you can have it whatever size you want/require/can fit into the space etc.
the down side of the kit greenhouse is the low/apex roof, lack of adaptabilty and silly doors.

designing your own is the way to go frank... i suggest a pent roof and double doors :-)
