Bluebells

I have a friend who will soon be joining DG; she is looking for seed for bluebells, whatever that is. Is there anyone who has these seeds that would be willing to do them for SAS. I don't do seeds much except for heirloom tomato seeds and would be willing to share some of those for the exchange if there is interest. There must be different varieties of "Bluebell" but you would have to enlighten me on that. She wants them because her daughter loves them.

Thanks . . . any help is appreciated.

Hi Arlene, I just meandered over to Saving Seeds and found your post.

There are a few kinds of Bluebells. One is "English" or "Common" bluebells, or Wood Hyacinth (Hyacinthoides hispanica), that are spring bulbs, coming out in May - mine are out now - so pretty!

Then, there's the "Scottish" bluebell, or Harebell, that bloom in late summer (Campanula rotundifolia). I have these also, and absolutely love them! This is probably what she meant.

Diane's Seed, http://www.dianeseeds.com/campanula-rotundifolia.html, has them for sale. This is a very nice seed company! I've never tried gathering seeds from this plant - maybe I should!

Hope this helps,
Sue

Thanks, Sue. Turns out her family calls grape hyacinths "bluebells" and that is what she was looking for.

Oh well, at least now you've been educated on bluebells!
