Note for Joseph about the Needle Leaf seeds

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I just wanted to tell Joseph about the needle leaf seeds I gave him. Check these out. They sprouted 100% and they are cool looking. The sea anemone looking cotyledons are likely to be the needle leaf! Special thanks to Arlan for these. I did do a little work pollinating the vine and the seeds came from a plain flowered parent vine growing with the needle leaf. The parent plants looked nothing like the needle leaf yet here is the funny looking cotyledons once again.

This is the plant I`m talking about. It is a needle leaf. This is likely to show a lot of different looks and will probably be very interesting if you like mutant morning glories.

I mean thread leaf. There is a needle leaf I think but not as fine as the thread leaf. How I wish I had a Japanese asagao teacher.

Please Dmail me if you are a person viewing here who understands both Japanese and English and you can share some translated educational materials about Japanese Morning Glories with me. I`m getting to know these vines like the back of my hand but I need help with names. :)

wow i like that one that is so cool looking.

Thanks, Karen! It is always nice to have a visual aid when interpreting the cotyledons!

Marie and Joseph, Your welcome. :)

Can you email the picture to me in larger format so I don't have to look through the DG watermark on the photo shown above, Karen?

I`m still writing 2008 and it is March 2009! I finally got some more closer up of these. It looks like a lot of variation too.

This is weird all curled up and not a great picture but you can kind of see how twisted this is before it opens up a little more.

It opens up and looks even more weird like a sea creature waving in the ocean currents.

This is really tiny.

This one looks like a willow dianthus cotyledon except it has more wavy curls on it than the others I have seen.

This is the 4 inch pot showing a more normal looking one which will probably end up being the parent plant that can make seeds.

Actually there are two parent types I can see there and they will probably be two different colors. I`m seeing a lot of variation in these seeds.

I think the cotyledons are way cool in shape variations and colors!

One of those looks like lobster claws before it opened.. really neat.

For the first time I am enthralled by the sight of the cotyledons. I used to overlook the cotyledons and be bored while I waited for them to grow. Not any more. :)

I know what you mean, I use a magnifying glass to check the stems on all them as soon as they sprout, you can see the lines, or speck, etc.. I love it when I spot them.

Welcome back Arlan..

Karen, mine are soaking as I type, they need to go into the soil today though, some germinated in the soak water since I put them to soak yesterday.
