Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

the light panel so far is doing pretty well, i think, i put a sinningia among other things under there & it seems to be growing a little faster than the norm.i will keep you posted, the flower i showed is not falling stars, this one is more purple than blue.there is a strep called yahoo, it's a pretty pink.

I have to admit I love Kitten Face, too.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Pretty Chimera, and Harmony's Little Stinker--I've never had the nerve to try it. Kitten Face has such cute little flowers--I like it every time I see it!
Here's the first bloom on a little mini--Rob's Buttercups...

Oh Jan,it's so cute! Is Harmony's Little Stinker a tough plant? I have a little baby Persian Prince and the leaves are so tiny and brittle I can barely touch it without knocking off a leaf, but it seems healthy and is making buds.

So close Jim! Ya didn't really think you'd get away with it, did you? LOL

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

it looks more like happy time,i think.
bonnie

Williston, ND

well the blue wiesmore can be different looking,as most of the wiesmores arent named and there can be several differnt blues, out there
sames as the pinks and reds and they all come from a wiesmore strain,at least thats the story i was told, and yes i had to try to be the last post, was feeling goofy at that time
jim

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Jim, you are right and I am wrong..............I forgot that the weismoore seed produces 18 distinct colors when grown.................

Williston, ND

it very well does look like happy time to me,but it could be a wiesmore blue, only way to know for sure is to have bonnie send me the plant for proper id,lol

JIM

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

say what?????lol
bonnie

Williston, ND

you heard me lol

JIM

Williston, ND

ill send it back someday lol,

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have one I don't know what it is and the leaf didn't come with a name..........and don't know who sent it to me..........waiting for it to open some more.........really a pretty one with the pinks and blues also.

Is it too soon to identify, Jim?

Time will tell . . . ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

The purple is really purple and the pink is all by itself and is really hot pink.......we shall see....

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Ok,a question for all of you Strep. junkies...Smile....or maybe two??
The Streps. I have so far do not drop their blossoms, except Gwen. She drops bright fresh blooms in two days,as if she has been pollinated and ready to set a seed pod.I don't have anything flying or hopping around and this is the only plant that does that.Is this a normal trait for her? She is still a only a baby with small leaves, but it's her second round of blooms.
Next...LOL..When you remove a Strep. leaf or spent bloom stalk, how close do you cut? There are always new buds forming beneath the stalks and it seems like the base of the leaves are so close to the soil I could invite rot if I cut too low.I know AVs need their spent leaves removed completely, but Streps. are different for me.

Lynn

Williston, ND

cut the stem close as you want, when removing a leaf thats bloomed leave a inch or two, becareful about lettting young streps bloom too much, they can and do bloom them selfs to death at times

JIM

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

jim, I have a question. If each leaf will put out either 7 or 9 blooms in its' life, then does it do any good to cut the buds off of a small plant .........or does that bud count as one of the blooms a leaf can produce in its' life time?

Williston, ND

it does count but it puts the energy it would take the plant making blooms and puts it into making more leaves and more roots which in return make a lot more flowers down the road,on my young ones if i have any doubt ,ill let it bloom once then cut off future blooms until the plant is decent size, not always but most of the time, then i know its bloomed true and dont have to let it bloom out

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Jim,
Thank you.It sounds like I need to start cutting Gwen's buds off and let her grow some leaves.I didn't know they could bloom themselves to death.
Lynn

Williston, ND

some streps are such vigouros growers they will do that, besides a nice big plant and loaded with blossoms is better then a little plant
thats is struggling

JIM

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

That's true.Alissa blooms like crazy too,but her leaves are growing nicely so maybe she's okay.
Lynn
