Feeling bruised and fragile

This morning I learned from my daughter that her best friend and "twin" was in the twin towers the morning of the attack. I hadn't been worried about her, because I thought she was in another part of the city, but DD had been frantic about her for the last two days. She is safe. I don't yet know the story, but she is alive and well.

I have been here sporadically over the last few days, seeking to be in touch with others. I don't leave the farm much, don't have much actual contact with people other than family on a day to day basis. this is by my own choice, but there are times when I do need to know that others with whom I share much are out there. This site is full of people that I consider friends. Some, I am in touch with in other ways, through email and snail mail, some I just know will be here when I come on. I know there have been some problems over the last day, and I must say that Dave seems to have handled it well. We are not a giant evil in the world. We are a nation of individuals who have almost as much trouble with each other as we have ever had with "enemies." But when we are hurt, we pull together, and when anyone else in the world is hurt, we offer our help. It is easy to see only the great wealth and apparent ease of our lives, but please, look more deeply and see as well the generosity of spirit and the real desire for all of the people of the world to have what we have. We are, for all of our pretensions, yet raw and arrogant in the way of youth. But, inspite of hate groups ( all nations have them) and inspite of what others may see as our greed, we do wish only the best for others in a broad and general way. We KNOW the success of our system, and like anyone who feels they have found a better way, want to share it. Forgive us if we are too energetic and enthusiastic, but we really wish only the best for everyone.

Kathleen, so very glad your daughter and her friend are safe. My father-in-law, lives and works close by the towers and everyone was holding their breath for a while but he finally was able to get in touch around 6:00 p.m. I also have a friend whos brother-in-law was on the 105th floor of tower #1. They have had no word and are presuming the worst. It is all so very very sad. I also think Dave has done a great job with the way he handled things here at DG!!!!! sue

I too found out today that my daughters ex was in New York.
Apparently she,s spent the last 2 days trying to get hold of him.Thankfully she reached him today, and he was o.k.
She didn,twant to tell me in case I worried !!
We met him last year when they came on a holiday with us, they made a funny couple. She,s 5ft 1, blonde and white as can be, he,s 6ft 4,black as can be, and she bossed him around something chronic :-} It was strange to see him doing everything she told him ! I used to tell her to stop it, and him to stand up to her . When ever they phoned home, he would always chatter away to me,But they seemed to be as happy as sand-larks then .Unfortunately something went wrong,and they split up,she was going to move to America to be with him.I,m just glad that him and his family are safe, but I,m annoyed that she didn,t share it with me.( She works abroad as a hol rep. in Rhodes )
I see too that they pulled a few more survivors out, firemen I think. Someone is going to be so relieved .But it must make it even worse for those that still don,t know.
