Air layering ficus & dracaena

Alfred, ME

Hi, I have Dracaena marginata and Ficus elastica that I want to take cuttings from. The two Ficus are gangly and somewhat, um, wide and flattened side to side in growth, having been living on a windowsill. The Dracaena are just getting a bit too tall. I searched the forums and found a post recommending air layering for the Ficus, but couldn't find anything definitive about the Dracaena. I assume air layering would be less traumatic, but would it make much difference in the long run? I have taken cuttings in the past, and they root fine (lol, I accidentally typed 'rot' first!) but would I see better results from air layering?

This site tells you how to do it and has pictures - hope it works for you!

Thanks- that looks like it covers everything! I was wondering about air layering vs. cuttings, but I think I'm just going to do the air layering. I think after I cut them off, I may try rooting stem sections; I've never done it that way & it seems a good way to get multiple plants.
