Victor, I'm assuming you were saying you have Hostas under your Cedar tree. Thanks.
I have another question. I found some tiny bulblets on top of the undisturbed soul near my one and only Turks lily. Could they be them?
I saved a dozen or so and planted them in a flat. Here are 2, about half the size of my pinkie fingernail.

Yup - they sure could be.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Andy - I have hostas under the cedar.

Staying in to avoid rain & high winds.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Victor and Cat.
I suppose I'll have to wait 3 years to see flowers on those Lilies. I found 2 nasty red lily beetles yesterday.
We have had 1.5 inches of rain so far and it's still raining.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Andy, I know what you mean about not wanting to discard any extra plants. I feel a need to pot up all extras, too, though I'm not as bad as I have been in the past. There are just times when there are too many extras and not enough time to pot them all.

Wow, Sherrie, that's a lot of tomato plants! Do you sell all the extras? Or do you sell your harvest at a farmer's market?

Nice work, Patti! You have quite a list there. That bed will look nice when it's all done. Oh, as for offering stuff to dig from the gardens for free, I recently joined that freecycle.com and offered shrubs to dig from my gardens, and I got a huge response. Actually had two people come and get some. I still have more to get rid of, so will be making the offer today to a couple more people who had responded.

You know, I have never limed my lawn. Just seems like so much extra expense and work to do when I have a limited amount of both time and money. I do want to put down some weed killer on the lawn, though.

Rcn48, I don't usually make a lot of money during my sales. I have to get nice A-frame signs to put at either end of our road. We live off a main road, and our road kind of makes a crescent and goes back to the main road at the other end. I want to be able to put the sign out on the days I'm working in the gardens to draw customers in. I usually have a sale that I advertise the first week of June and then 2 in mid-July for the daylilies. During the sale days I dig from the gardens as well as sell the potted plants.

Jo Anne, your new bed will look great. Maybe you could fill in with annuals this year while your waiting for your new perens to get bigger.

Well, I got more done in the gardens yesterday. I cleaned out what I call my white and yellow bed that is surrounding a sunken patio. I redid part of it, transplanting some stuff and working in compost.

I transplanted a Japanese holly that was getting too big for the spot it was in. Bill, I know what you went through! Maybe not quite. This bush was almost too big for me to move, though.

I also dug up a large clump of a white epimedium and separated it. I got probably 10 smaller pieces out of it. I found a bunch of seedlings coming up from my sweet cicilly that's in there, so I will pot them up when they get bigger.

Today I had 4 yards of wood chips delivered and started putting them on a pathway before the rain came. Here are some pics of today's progress. Didn't take any pics yesterday.

Here is the pile of woodchips and my Dad's dog, Buffy.

Here's my friend David with the wood chips pile. Too bad I can't get him to help. He won't do any hard work. Lazy bum!

Karen, the wood chips really add a nice touch :)

JoAnn and Patti, beautiful plants you're adding to the garden! Patti, is that 'Sangria' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/217693/ in the upper right? Love it! I don't know the dimensions of the small pond, they don't have them listed on the website and the sales clerk was no help at all :( I did check out the larger pond though while I was there, it's a 40 gallon 'bucket' for $31.99 and is about 4' long, 2.5' wide and about 12" deep. The one I'm looking at is only 15 gallons so it should be just what I need :) Not sure if Agway would have them up north, but if you can find a Tractor Supply in your area they're located in the Equine section - bucket feeders. "Official" water garden prices are substantially higher and even though they have the kidney shape I was looking for, I'll suffer with the oval shape and a much cheaper price!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Looking good Karen

Speaking of bucket my DH picked up 2 huge ones. They come with grain in them for cows. They must hold 20 gallons. Would be great for containers. Holes would have to be put in the bottom. Since my EE's aroid/bulbs survied the winter I am going to see what they will do in them. I will get a pic - if I remember. Ya like the crocus - they are not gone.

Ugh - snow! And the deer is mooning us.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thought that was an appropriate view

Cracks me up :-)

karen the wood chips look great

bad mojo to show pic's of snow!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Debbie, it is indeed Pardancanda 'Sangria' from Hallson in the spring of 2007 it has done very well and is such an odd and interesting color, but blends well.

Quoting:
(36") This selection of Pardancanda has 3" wide, plum purple flowers with alternating bronzy-gold petals. If planted with other candy lilies you will get highly variable seedlings but if you keep them isolated you could get many purple offspring from the seeds. Space 15 - 18" apart. $6.99 each

Ge1836. No mas!

Karen, you are really doing a great job, love the wood chips.

I will wait to see how Debbie's works out, before I even think about another water feature. I would have to do some major thinking about getting water to another spot. Patti

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Karen, those paths really highlight the beds. Look great!

Sorry about the snow.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm putting away winterclothes because it's no use to go out.
How's that for optimisim?
Jo Ann

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

*groaning* - leave it to Victor :( LOL

Jo Ann, try to keep a positive attitude, it's Mother Nature's fertilizer for your gardens :) Believe it or not they're predicting flurries for us today!

The sun comes out and its 40 and I have no winter clothes. I will freeze!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the compliments on my wood chips, everyone! The only problem with them is they really need refreshing at least every 2 years. Actually, after just one year they look rather drab. All that nice 'freshness' look is gone, replaced by very faded wood chips. Oh, well. Looks great the first year, anyhow.

No gardening today. Had to work.

Hope we don't get snow here, Jo Anne!

Karen

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Will it ever end?

West Warren, MA

Depressed over this 'cold'! When will in end!!

Cold and no sun geeze! We are stuck in a rut.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The long range forcast I read last fall said April and May would be unusually warm.NOT

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Rototiller day. But the clouds are moving in, not happy, but no choice. It just seems cold. Patti

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

"April - -the cruelest month"

ARGH - Winds blowing, the green house is pumping out the heat. I got the itch to plant and did it too soon. Its gonna cost more money. Should of waited. ARGGHH

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'm going to be starting some more seeds today...where I'll be putting the containers I have no clue.

Dont leave prepared flats outside. They were frozen - literally

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I have all my cuttings and seedlings on the floor in front of the slider in my dining room. Hubby just LOVES me.

The flats were not planted just watered down dirt in pots. I germinate in the house as its warmer. Then moved to the GH which is set at 62 degrees.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I wish I had a gh.
