Eastern Phoebe

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm not sure is 'broods' is what they are called. How about 'families'? lol! We know mama has new eggs when she starts sitting on the nest throughout the night. Good luck. Hope you have lots of babies!

I'm watching our bluebirds and hope to catch them when they fledge. It's hard to tell because they are inside a box and we can't see the babies. I know they are still in there because the parents are still carrying off their little 'dirty diapers'.

I saw the Phoebe back to the nest this morning. Loading pix now. :-)

Ah, it was a real busy weekend. But here I'm back with more pix to share. While the parent birds returned to the nest. Guess what the youngguns doing? They're learning to hunt on their own! I caught some pictures of the 3 young birds, though, not huddling together, but hunting together on this side of the garden this morning. This one is perching on the tree-top, ands swoops it went for flying insect-catching practice. ^_^
They're quite people-friendly, I was on clear view with the camera and they didn't appear to be very timid.

They grow up so fast.

This is my first time watching this wonderful event. These little ones really spread their wings. The only thing different I can tell b/w the fledgings and the parents is that the younguns' tails are not as long as their parents'.

Sounds like you're having a lot of fun watching them, Kim. I hope yours will return every year like ours so you can continue to enjoy them!

I don't know if these were from the nest over the gutter that we've been watching or another nest, but there were two baby Phoebes sitting on the front porch railing yesterday morning being brought food by their parents. So cute!

Debra, those must be the birds' so called "Precious moments". Like children, they grow up so so fast. lol.

Here is one of the 'babies' that are still learning to hunt nearby the nest yesterday. I heard them chatterred further away to the other end of the garden today. Before long, I bet I get to see the next "family" coming along, for the parent(s) are back at the nest today too. Then comes the next chapter of the Phoebes journey. Thanks for letting me know ahead of the time so we could put off reconnecting the floodlight where the nest is. ^_^

The phoebe parents are busy, aren't they? Constantly feeding those babies and starting a new family at the same time. Plus, they have to eat, too!

I think the young ones recognized that the parents are going to be real busy, so they're out there practicing hunting on their own. They're just like little toddlers, very currious, even wondering what's up with the lady with the camera on her hands. lol.
