Any one know about this echinacia?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I ordered this from American Meadows
Echinacia Sundown
Just wondering if anyone grew it and how it worked out for you.

So many of the new echies end up sucking.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i have sundowner - it was ok - did not flop - first year - got it at hd i believe

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I remember sucking statements about certain varieties. I'm interested in color, never thought about flopping.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the color was good - as i remember it seemed to fade quickler than others

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Ahhhh Welllll its in the loop now, no going back.
I have changed the area three times.
On paper and order forms that is.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the pink double delight I have is a flopper... I am giving it one more year... and if it doesn't look better I am moving it

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I have it, this is one of my favorite pics that I took. It's planted right near Sambuca 'Black Lace'...or was that 'Black Negligee?' One of the two...

Nice - how did the color hold? Was it the first year?

Yes, PDD is a major flopper.

Kerhonkson, NY(Zone 5a)

Didn't last for me -- I got about 2 years -- Sunrise either ... too iffy for my zone 5a garden ... pretty color though ...

Thats the color I was hoping for and with Lavendar too.
I wont invest too much in it then.Echies do well here although they are the purple cone.

Kerhonkson, NY(Zone 5a)

Well your zone is a little warmer than mine ... who knows ...

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Didn't do well here either....but im a zone colder too.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have spotty success and I'm warmer.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the input.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Good to know, that was 1 on my wish list.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I guess its what our expectations are in the first place.
I am hoping for the color and an open airy look to the plant, not necessarily the more compact look of the pink and purple varieties.
If its a bummer you will certainly hear from me.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Jo Ann I have 4 of these coming so please let me know if you don't like it or it doesn't do well for you. http://www.terranovanurseries.com/wholesale/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=510
Of course I can't tell how this one performs, so i'm not sure it's any help at all! lol

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I ordered three from American Meadows we are in the same boat here.
I just remember a conversation last fall on a "how did your plants do this season"thread and remembered some bad talk about the new echies.
Since Terra Nova says this is new for09 I guess it wasnt the one we ordered.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Victor, in response to the color, the first year (and pardon my language) but it completely sucked. This picture was taken last year (it's second season) and the color was great. It seemed like it was in flower and kept sending up flower stems/stalks for weeks. I have had other Echi's that have not done so well. For whatever reason the white Echi's (with the exception of Coconut Lime-that's a new one for me, just got it last year out of bloom) just look horrible. The white tends to be white for a fleeting moment then they tend to get a brownish edge and look all "crappy." I'm hoping Coconut Lime does better, my hopes are up but not that high.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

no picture
:(

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I was affraid of that with the white ones.
I have Autumn Skies and it does the same thing. Looks great the first day and then down hill from there.
Here they are with Lily Fata Morgana and phlox David

Gee I just got White Swan last year -- I hope it doesn't do that brown thing right away ... I was looking forward to it ...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I grew Sundown from seed and the colour was so-so the first year it bloomed. I had to transplant it last year due to deck construction and it didn't flower. We'll see how it shows this year.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I ordered 3 Sundowns. Its so hard for me to get plants in the ground anyway. They will just have to do their thing no matter what it is.
Unless I just cant stand it.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

It's pretty ge1836; just more pinkyorange than I thought it would be. I will keep it for sure.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Re whites. I grew 'Alba' from seed and it is beautiful

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

dnut there you go throwing around "u's" again

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

LOL notice I didn't say 'fleur' though.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

aaaaaawwwww leave her alone

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i almost dropped the u from around to see if you wold notice

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wassamatta U - that's my alma mater.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Expecting my 12 JM's today!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

T'would be labouriously cumbersum if you did.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Another 12! Where are you going to put 12 more trees?!?!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - not sure, but most are small-ish. Three will go in containers. This will bring my total number of varieties to 30, not counting the 'big guy' out front.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I hope you're not planning to fill up the new dance floor with JMs :O
