I see purpurea sepals and also curly ones like hederacea or one that could pass for i nil at a distance too. It could have a i nil or hederacea mixed in there but not blooming,it could be a hybrid of some kind or it just looks a little wierd. Without being there I could only guess. :)

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

It looks like i purpurea but it is a little unusual in apearance too.

szarvas, Hungary

Yes they talk of hybrid too
and Hederacea is a bridge between Purpurea and Nil.

Sometime I prefer pic of all the plant , you can imagine the effect .

Patio sized and quite lovely. :)

Dany the Ipomoea kirezaki looks like a multilobed split/hige purpurea similar to this one grown by Momcat:

szarvas, Hungary

perhaps but they say in Japan , it's an hybrid : ipomoea X HIBURIDA

They use to call the Hederacea MG : KIMASU or West MG

I'm trying to win this clear blue Nil - the colour is the same but flowers are larger .

The yellow MGs are also in high demand in Japan along with the chocolates.

here is a conversation in Japan ( question - answer )

Q. 11 morning glory flowers, blooming in the morning when I was blue, purple and has changed from the day and evening, Why? ?

A. 11-red flowers does not change more than the blue flowers of

→ → Flowering chytrid kill mi
Red purple blue red purple

You can view and change to. This is a pigment called anthocyanin contained in the petals, acidity (pH) is thought to be under way to change the color.

Acidic (red) ← → neutral (purple) ← → alkaline (blue)

The cells of petals, and bright colors and with the influence of other molecules, making the colors in faded flower water, vinegar (acid) and baking soda (alkaline) and add a certain amount Since that change color, please try.

It's a good little experiance to do - I'll try with this flower in container .

Dany - What kind of potatoe makes these blooms? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6307403 I am floored to see such gorgeous blooms coming from a sweet potatoe vine! That is sooooo unbelievable!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

It looks grafted. Pretty interesting!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

my sweet patatoes bloom but dont look like that
mine look like this if I start them early enough but dont bloom every year it has to be a long hot season

Thumbnail by scicciarella
Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

but there are many different kinds of sweet patatoes and they all have different flowers but all have the shape of an mg
the light ones with the green foliage have white or light pink
the darker foliage has the darker pink or purple
but many roots are called sweet patatoe

Mona the fertilizer ( I suppose liquid ) you use have a really booster action on your young MG . I need that formula too !
I bought one with the formula in porcentage : N - 8 %, P2O5 - 8 %, K2O - 6% + Cu, B, Fe, Mn, Mo and Zn those micro-ingredients interesting me.

The N ( nitrogen ) is dangerous and not really interesting for me because I make my own mixed soil , very organic.
I have a principle in fertilizing topic : everytime leaving a certain hungry ( leave is perhaps not the good term )
Japanese use charcoal to mixt in the soil , i think is not only for lightness but it has an action as toxic prevents ( old agriculure method of Amazon Indian )

Becky and Karen yes it's graft but why ?
They use to sell in garden stores sweet potatoes ( green leaf ) as indoor vegetable.( looks original )

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

what I am using is called rapid grow and I am using half strenght the company is hortibec its granular water soluble its a product from quebec canada
I first used it on my geraniums to see how it worked and they doubled in size in three weeks and the blooms tripled in size that is why I decided to start giving it to the MGs all of them since you had posted that fertilizer was on the list of info for larger blooms
this is what is in it
nitrogen 10 per cent phosphoric acid 52 per cent potash iron .10 per cent zinc .05 per cent copper .05 per cent manganese and baron .02 per cent molybdenum .30 per cent
this stuff is sold at the local garden center for under 10 dollars for 500grams and it is such a small amount needed that a jug lasted me about a year
if you want I can send you a jug of the stuff

this morning after checking I now have buds on most of them

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Maybe they grafted it to look cool? I`m not real sure. :)

It looks like form what I see in the picture they cut the sweet potato vine off and grafted the Japanese Morning Glory vine onto the potato vine.

ID
Are they US mornig glories or renamed JMG ?

with no society it is sad but companies can call then what ever they want and there is no control which is said since the japanese have worked so hard for so long to create these blooms and now they will be sold by major companies without giving them the credit they are due
