Odd question.

My wife picked up some seeds in Disney World but didn't know what tree they came from. They were about the size of a almond and almond shaped with hairs coming off of it, I have know idea what tree this is. Went to nick them and it turns out the almond shape is a hard woody shell with small winged seeds inside. Problem is even after trying to use a knife, razor and dremel tool I can not get these seeds out at least not without destroying them.

Question is any idea how to get these seeds out? I have one soaking in water right now hoping it will soften up but it's floating and I have a feeling it will not soften up. My other option is to get off as much of the shell as I can then soak the whole thing over night and then planted it in a small pot hoping for the best. I'm not thinking option two will work.

???????

This is getting odder. Here's a picture of one I soaked over night. Notice the lighter colored spots? Those seem to be the the winged seeds which were brown colored yesterday. Notice the one seed seems to be sprouting???? I think that is a root coming out??? The shell material (not sure what to call it ) is still hard as rock.

Sorry I should have taken a picture before I started fooling with them but I thought it was going to be simple. Large seed nick shell, soak and that's it. That piece that looks like a root forming wasn't there yesterday but I could have shaved a bit off with a razor and it just swelled up like that.

Put it back in the water to soak and just checked it again. Yes the seeds are growing roots. That was quick. No idea how they will manage to grow out of that rock hard shell.
