OK, everyone, Here is the Official Thread for discussing the upcoming Bestest Ever PNW Roundup!
Date: Aug 29 thru Aug 30 You are welcome to "set up camp" here if you would like to either arrive early, stay later, to take in any additional activities in the area, or to accommodate your traveling schedule.
Place: our home, 26217 137th St Ct E, Buckley, WA 98321 , approx 1 hour southeast from Seattle
Accommodations: We have several sleeping areas, will post pictures later. Also, room for RV or tents. Please D-mail me to "reserve" your spot.
Meals: Potluck, will create a thread to sign up for what you would like to bring. Breakfast will be hosted by Julie (Rarejem) and her mother, Sharon at their lovely home approx 1 mile from my house on Sunday morning. They have an outstanding collection of daylillies and roses.
Internet: Wireless is available here, so bring your laptops if you wish.
Rarejem is putting together a list and driving directions of local nurseries. She is working on getting us a discount, so think positive thoughts here! She is also putting together a list of things to do/see, in case your teens or Significant Other would like to do something different. In fact, there is a paintball field close by (We can hear them, it is that close.)
So, now let's hear your ideas of what you would like to do. It IS your Roundup!
PNW Round Up Aug 29- 30
Yeah Lynn, you got the thread up! Lynn's house and yard are absolutely lovely, and the perfect place for the roundup! Lots of space surrounded by a beautiful garden!
Mom and are excited to be close enough to both help and do a breakfast/garden tour. Our current plan for breakfast is biscuts and gravy and fresh fruit...something simple enough no matter how many decide to show up.
There are lots of fun things to do for everyone in the area...if you are not a gardener, there are hiking and biking trails very close, mountain hikes less that 45 minutes away, a fish ladder near by, parks, farmer's markets (I think...will have to do some further research into the local communities), a great "hole in the wall" type of nick-nack (sp?) store that has tons of garden stuff, a dahlia garden, and I might even be able to swing a tour of a friends alpaca farm if any one was interested. Any ideas of things that you and your families like to do for fun would be greatly appreciated, as we can use them to come up with the best list of things to keep EVERYONE entertained. There is even a local koi/pond plant retailer if anyone may be interested.
We would love to have an approximate headcount for breakfast if you know for sure that you will be there. If you would d-mail me and let me know if you know you will be coming, I would appreciate it. Also, if anyone would be interested in the alpaca farm, please d-mail me as well. We have friends who breed alpacas, and they are very willing to open their farm for visitors, but I don't want to ask them unless I know that a few people will be interested.
Anything else people are interested in that might be in the area? All suggestions are welcome!
Julie

Something to look forward to during all this rotten weather! Wahoo!
Julie I plan to attend your garden tour and meet all of your fairies :0)
Rachel... hopefully all the faries will be back in the garden by then! They are shivering over a heat lamp in my wellhouse right now, and it's not looking like they will be coming out any time soon! Thanks for posting the link to this thread in other areas. We figured that with a new thread it would be easier for people to find.
Katie59- Thanks for the suggestion of keeping in mind that some here don't eat meat products! Raised with a "country" background, we sometimes forget that there are other eating habbits than ours! We will incorporate something like blueberry muffins for our breakfast as well...want to make sure that there is something for everyone!
Something that Mom and I thought would be kind of fun would be to do a "door prize" drawing at Lynn's potluck on Saturday. There are a few plants that we have maybe one to share (things that have layered, etc.), so we don't want to tell bunches of people that we have one to give away as we don't want anyone to feel left out..... but if there were similar things that other people had...drawing tickets and then having the winner's choice of the items on the "door prize" table... what do you guys think?

OK...I have this event listed in the Round Ups at a Glance Forum....have a GREAT time! Jo
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/557555/
oooh! maybe I should schedule my vacation for August, head up to WA and drag sis and mom along?
I am going to be there, come H### of high water, Found a car on Craigs list going to look at it tomorrow. A subaru wagon just like my old one, that I killed. So Sad, as I really like them. and I can sleep in the back. No biggie. Tail gate party LOL.
Are we going to swap plants? On Vac. this week want to know so I can get them ready. I'm getting excited ^_^
A plant swap would be great. Mary, you can sleep in the trailer, if you wish. No need for you to sleep in the back of your car.
I have a 93 Eagle Vision that I am going to sell for about $1500, if the Subaru doesn't work out.
Anjl, would love to have you guys here for the Roundup.
Oh Tilly, hope the car works out! Watch out for car flippers though. I met my share of dishonest people when looking for a car about a year ago.
My family is coming to the Round Up, yahoo! And I'm really looking forward to meeting people, visiting folks' gardens (Lynn and Julie and anybody else reasonably close), going to nearby nurseries, swapping plants, talking around the campfire, etc.
The Hartman's Fruit Nursery (in Puyallup) has a fruit tasting in August which may be happening at that time. They are going to send me an e-mail invite at some point this summer.
My son has a job shoveling poop at an alpaca farm here on Vashon, so he would not be interested in that one during his vacation, but they are quite beautiful animals and others would have a good time I'm sure.
Lynn, can you show me a pic. of the eagle???
Thanks Holly, but this is a one owner car, has all the history on it, but does need some work, CVC joints which my bro can do easy. and the its only $800.00 They wanted $1,000.00 but DH gave them a offer of cash. But nothing is said and done till we see it tomorrow.
But Lynn, If I have a place to be, then someone else can have the trailer. Not hard to trow a matt. in the back (have one) Will let you know If I get the car, but keep the trailer open for now. LOL
Lynn...how far are you from Olympia? wondering cause mom may be looking for a car soon. She's visiting here in CA right now, but should be back in WA next week sometime....
Tilly, my dream car was always a subaru outback lol! now I'm stuck in a monstrous dodge durango that sucks up gas like no tomorrow :o( sure wish I would have bought that outback instead...but with all these kids, well at least we only have to take one car MOST of the time lol!
We're about an hour from Olympia - Hwy 512 to Puyallup, then 167 and 410 to Bonney Lake, then about 6 miles to our house.
I'll mention it to mom when she comes back later this week (she's visiting other sis now) that is if Tilly buys the outback ....mom doesnt NEED a car, just wants one lol! easier for us to keep tabs on her when she doesnt have a car :o) cant get too far walking in the snow .........
One owner car with all records! That is a lucky find. Go for it if it checks out.
I agree. CVC boots arent hard to replace, nor are they costly...so if thats all it needs.....
Sounds like fun! I have it inked in on my calendar!

Laura and I are hoping...still a bit early for us to be able to make plans...
Holly - is your son gifting you with Alpaca Poop? (you could probably $ell it in Seattle!)
Jo - thank you for keeping track of us. I didn't even know there was a "roundups at a glance". Azorina, looking forward to meeting you. Mary, good luck with the car - I hope it works out.
This sounds like fun, but so far I have no idea if I'd be able to make this or not. So put me down in the "clueless" category for the time being. :)
I did have an idea, though. You could do a container contest. The way I was thinking it might work would be to choose a few plants that everyone had to use (3? 5?) but then allow free rein for the container and other plants or things in the container. Then, everyone brings their containers to the roundup and the top ??? get door prizes. I was thinking that the required plants should be something very common that everyone could find locally at HD or similar. That would keep it affordable for everyone and also make it possible for people to actually get the same plants without all sorts of logistics or postage, etc. Folks who are into esoteric stuff could still use those plants, but they would have to use the common ones as well...
This turn out to be a great day, then turned to really bad.
I fell in love with the car, clean inside and out. My DH took it for a test drive and then I did was great, so we bought it. Everything was fine, til I got off the ferry and headed home. Then all H### broke lose, it started smoking and losing power real bad. Had to tow it the last 2 miles. I am so sad.
DH is going to call the guy we got it from, I don't think he will take it back. But maybe he will give me part of the money back,
I am willing to get some of the money back, then I can buy a new engine. if need be.
Oh Mary I'm so sorry. We have had that luck with heavy equipment. I think Dave has bought 3 things ran great where we bought it and then got them home and all aexcited to go to work and then they broke. I feel bad. Your not the only one. Hope you can fix it. Maybe you can rob parts off your old one, Heidi
That's crazy. I don't think this person can claim ignorance. They knew it had this problem and, furthermore, went to great pains to hide it. Surely if you have "your attorney" call them . . . I mean, your DH should call and pose as your attorney - they have a lot of gall to sell you a car you couldn't even get home.
Its going to be all right in the long run, DH talk to him and he is sending money back. I am keeping the car and going to put a new engine in it. as it is so what I want. Just not as fast as I wanted. But at least I will know whats going to be under the hood LOL. He did not know it was a bad as he thought, he is a very nice person.
Willow, not a problem with the truck, learned how to drive it very well today. Sticky brake and all, I think I could take it anywhere now. My GOD I drove semis, but I still feel realy small in this thing after driving the little cars for so long.
omg! what was wrong with it Tilly...was it a blown head gasket?
Yikes! There is a lemon law. You can return a used car within a time frame (72 hours maybe, not sure) and get your money back. You did better though, Got your money back but get to keep the car to fix up to your satisfaction.
Katye, unfortunately we get no Alpaca poop as a perk from my son's job. They compost it and spread it on their own fields. They also sell some of it. If I wanted some, I'd have to buy it. Boo hoo.
That is what we think as of now, may have done more damage, will know more in AM. I have a friend looking on the net, to fine me a new crate engine. I know they are out there, have had other people tell me that on my last one. But it wasn't worth it, this one is.
Oh, wow, Tills! What an awful day! Hope you find a new engine soon!
Glad it's turned out okay!
Tills.....how sad, but glad it's working out. Too bad it will take a little longer to get your new car. I am glad the man did what was right, sounds like he honestly didn't know it was that bad.
What a roller coaster of a day! Hopefully you can get an engine soon.
Hey Lynn, can I Rent to own???
I need a car now, I will give you my Corgi for collateral. Can we work out payments.
Help
OK, bumping because someone bumped the suggestion thread so wanted to make sure any people "catching up" saw the details. There is a seperate thread for the plant exchange! See you all there!
Bumping for people who may have missed. Am going to be posting some requests for help/adivce soon. We have been working on details, and want to get some input on whether people would like to do a group nursery trip, take time to make trips on their own, ect. Will post the link here when I get our questions together! We are really looking forward to seeing everybody!
Thought I'd post the link to the trading thread for the roundup. We need action from more people!
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/964425/
Even if you have nothing to trade because you are new to gardening or your garden is too new to divide stuff, post what you want because some of us 'old timers' have more plants than you can shake a stick at and we would love to share with you. If you don't know what plants you want, at least put how much sun you have, whether your soil drains nicely, and what general garden style you like (cottage style, Mediterranean, tropical, water garden, etc.) and whether you need tall, medium, or short plants.
I just can't adequately express my disappointment about the alpaca poop. I suppose we all had the same idea, those of us who have no handy ruminants in the back garden! As for the Round Up, it sounds so delightful and so FAR AWAY! I guess that by the end of August I will know what I have that's extra. Does anyone know about dividing hostas? Seems it would be easy. Mine are all in smallish pots, as they seem safer from slugs that way.
