Do Heat Mats Use Much Electricity?

Jacumba, CA(Zone 8b)

My bill tripled this month and that is the only thing that I am using that I wasn't using a month ago. I can't imagine that 1 small heat mat could make much of a difference, I think they read my meter wrong.

I've never noticed a difference in my bills based on whether it's a month where I'm using the heating mats or not. Only gardening-related thing that I've ever seen cause my bills to go up is my electric heater for my greenhouse and even that doesn't triple it.

Thanks for the response, Ecrane. I'm sure they just read the meter wrong.

Insist on having the meter reader drug tested.Tell the electric company, you don't want that crack head, out at your place ever again.I think my heat mat is rated at 13 watts.Compared to a 40 watt bulb, this is nothing.Only major appliances could burn that much.E.G. ac,heat, fridge, stove, dehumidifier, water heater etc.Edge

most single heat mats are 17 watts or about the same as two nite lights i go along bad meter reader.power here is high never get higher bills with two lights, two heat mats and a fan.

Thanks for the input, I am waiting to see what they are going to do. They had me read the meter to them over the phone and they are going to look into it.
