I direct seed my melons. Three palnts to the EB. Honeydews don't spread as much as watermelons and honeydews only seem to produce two per plant. I'll be seeding mine ASAP.
Watermelon and canteloupe in containers?
TPlant: I will be planting my plants in the EB and go from there, I will have 4 watermelons per EB and 4 ambrosia melons per EB.

Cut back to three per EB for best results.
TPlant: Ok, I'm also using one of Bob's lay flat bags for the melons, as I have one left and I think they will be great in there, they lay flat right? LOL I'm gonna wait another week before planting them I think, just in case there is a cold snap, they love warm weather and so does my okra. So; I will plant my bush beans, lima beans and snow peas this weekend instead. I came up with another bright idea, only this one is a good one I think. You remember the weed cloth I bought and was going to use in my flower bed? Well, it's the right width for making mulch covers with for my HEBs, so that is what I'm did with my candy apple onions, I planted 10 per HEB and used two HEBs, got some left over for my sister too. Anyways, the weed cloth is dark; but, it should work, I also decided that since the HEBs are made from 18 gallon totes and therefore deeper than the EBs I would use them for things like onions, only I did not come all the way to the top with the Jungle Grow I used as I want the plants to grow, I think the dimensions of the EB have something to do with how well they perform and the totes are a little higher than they should be, which means the water has to wick up further. I've got hanging grow bags for the peas and beans. Can't believe I have 40 tomatoes in the greenhouse still. Some chocolate cherry some vilmas and some romas, all small ones, so I will be taking some to the FL/AL roundup, as one of the girls has brandy wines and I want to swap her for one of those. I will give my sister a lot of those small ones also. I have 9 coming from Burpees and some are the big ones I like. I don't really care much for the small ones. The large ones you can get out the old cutting board, slice it, slap it on your plate grab a fork and salt and pepper and you are in heaven. I'm going to keep the maters in the greenhouse with the screens on and the doors and windows open until the first week of April, then they can hit the yard, they will be strong and huge by then and ready to fight off any diseases or insects, of course I'll be prowling around looking for those dastardly tomato hornworms.

Well, I planted watermelon and muskmelons a couple of days ago, direct seeded in 5gall grow bags. When the seedlings come up, I suppose it would be best to keep only 1 per bag?
I don't have a plan yet about what to do with the vines. Currently they are on my pool cool-decking. I'm guessing that when it really heats up around here that it might cook them. I don't know if putting down some sort of ground cover would protect enough, or if I should try to trellis them or what. I planted Sleeping Beauty and Kansas muskmelons and Wilsons Sweet watermelon.
I don't have much of a clue about what I'm doing, but it's fun. :-)
I have trellised melons using panty hose and old t-shirt material. It works well for cantaloupes and small watermelons. If my vines were on my cool deck I would definately put something under them to lift them up off the cool deck.
I'm going to grow one melon per growbag, I think that's the safest bet for me in order to try to get some melons off of them, I'm hoping also that the smaller varieties will produce more melons grown this way, than the bigger varieties.
Definitely going to trellis mine, it's hot as blue blazes here in the summer, too. I'd compare it to your climate almost, I used to live in Mesa and where I am doesn't feel that much different in July and August.
My watermelons and ambrosias will be off by themselves due to the crawling vines, I got a big yard might as well utilize it right? Already got the place in mind for it and will spread out weed cloth and garden staple it down too. Soon, as this rain lets up they get planted.
