When is the best time to plant Witch Hazel in 5b?

We are thinking about adding a Hamamelis x intermedia 'Jelena' sometime in the next year. But since they bloom so early, I don't know what the best time to plant one would be. I'm not in a hurry and can't buy/plant it now. Would autumn be better for the plant or should I wait until next spring? Is it better when it's flowering, leafing or after it changes to it's autumn colors?

Anyone?

I've been selling quite a few to landscapers lately. They are tough so as long as the soil is not frozen, and the plant frozen, you should be fine. It might not be best to plant into the summer months though. Jelena's such a nice cultivar.

They're very pretty. Normally I like to plant when tree is dormant but I don't know if this tree ever is dormant. When we buy one, I want to do it at the very best time of the year to give it the best chance of survival.

You've also gotta think of availability times at the nurseries. They're probably available now but later in the fall might not have the best selection or quality of plants. IMO, now is a good time and give it extra water during the summer during the first summer. Incorporating good soil and slow release fertilizer on planting can make such a significant difference.

Good point. I can't buy one right now but it'll be first on my list next spring.
Thanks so much for the input.
