will my lillies be ok?

We have had hard freeze in the 20s last three nights and I see some of my lillies up with brown on the leaves. Will they die or just have to cut the brown off? Thanks BEV

How far up are your Lilies? I've only got a couple barely poking their noses above the soil surface (Longiflorum-Oriental hybrids, always first to emerge here), but no leaves have unfurled yet. Surprising to hear of Lilies already leafing out in your zone. Did they turn dark green, like salad greens that have frozen, before turning brown? That's what I typically see when Lily sprouts get frozen, then they lay flat and turn to slime. I think I'd leave them alone for now and see what happens (as far as cutting anything off is concerned), but you may want to pile some loose mulch (leaves or straw would be good) on them to protect from coming cold spells. Regardless this shouldn't kill them, they may be weakened, but should return next year.

Just happened to think of something, could it be Daylilies you have?

I agree with Neal on all points.

My Triumphator has some up a couple inches now. I cover them with leaves and/or cover with empty pots. Just remove the pots during the day.

If they are dayliles they should be fine once it warms up.

Yeah they are daylillies and I am going to go out and cover all I see today. Thanks. BEV

Bev..I noticed all my evergreen and semi evergreen daylilies are growing too...
and i'm thinking that they'll be okay....That this might be normal for them...
Their all new to me so we'll see....I've always just had the dormant ones before...

I have 3 evergreens. Hope they make it. BEV

Okay..daylilies you don't need to cover.... I have evergreens and semi-evergreens and even some dormants that don't go completely dormant here. They are up and have the brown tips. I trim them up a bit when it warms up and they actively growing. What you have is very normal.

The covering up is for true lilium bulbs.
