Day light bulbs?

Black Creek, WI

My sister brought me some that she got cheap (sticker in the corner says 60 cents) somewhere, are they as good as plant lights?(even for temporary use) I had one burn out this morning.

Can you give us more info from the package? are they tube lights? or CFL? or incandescent?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Are they flourescent lights? I don't know what the long number means. If it is flourescent it should say somewhere 25 W, 40 W etc. 40 W light bulbs for plants are fine, you don't have to use the plant ones. I like the 6500 K lights. It is the strongest color temp bulb I have found without having to buy the 'grow lights'.
If the bulb is an incandescent bulb, you have to be very careful around your plants. These bulbs will get extremly hot and burn the leaves.
Did she buy them used like at a yard sale? Could be why it burned out.

The one that burned out was a regular plant light, I was asking if the day light bulb was suitable for even a temporary replacement, the numbers should have been part of the link to the info on the specific bulb I don't know why it did that. She said she got them new at a big box store
the bulb is 50 watt and it says white & natural in the corner

Thanks everyone

It should be fine--sounds like it's a regular fluorescent light and those are fine for plants, you don't need to spend extra on the fancy plant light ones.

if this is the blue Daylight light bulb, it is incandescent. If it is Daylight Plus, it is a fluorescent bulb. http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/LightingForHome/Products/Daylight/ProductInformation/

You want a fluorescent bulb for your plants.

This is my first year growing indoors under lights, so I have nothing to compare, but I'm using 6500K flourescent bulbs and they seem to work fine. I bought a box of 10 or 12 four foot bulbs at Lowe's for around $20.
