Yeeehaaawwwww

I second Chantell's Yeehaw! Except we're back down to the low 50s and the quiet is deafening. Ah, March...

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

What a wonderful pic to start us off. Those are some beautiful flowers you have there. ;}
My pond frogs have been out on some of these warm days but they were slow, sluggish and quiet. Lilac buds are swelling nicely. I think they are calling for the temps to drop a little. Still pretty dark outside will go out later and see if there is anything to take a pic of.

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

nice photo of the girls ^_^ ...the garden in the background is beautiful too

HollyAnn, our temps are rising here today...up to possibly 70....are you sure your temps are not rising rather than dropping?

I'll have to look and see what may be 'peeking' today. Yesterday, I did notice our common chives are coming up and some buds showing on a clematis.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I thought they said last night on the weather that temps were going to drop for a few days but this morning they said it will be in the sixties. Right now it's cold, damp and 45 degrees. I see a lot of the new tulips and daffs that I planted last fall are just starting to come up and new growth on some of the Hellebore's. The Encore Azaleas that I planted last summer aren't looking too good, maybe the really cold temp this winter was too much for them, I guess time will tell.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I came back from Pittsburgh to discover that our warm weekend had produced not only lots of lovely clumps of crocus blooms but DAFFODILS! I've never had daffs this early. Let's hear it for 'Rinveld's Early Sensation'! (didn't take my camera out yesterday in the yard, shame on me... sorry... cute short yellow trumpet daffs)

Adamstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Yep -- same for me, Jill. Early Sensation blooming their hearts out. I did take a picture but haven't had a chance to load it. Didn't see it the day I snapped the crocus and hellebores. My son had to tell me they were outside his window. Had not even been on that side of the house looking for bulbs. Never have seen blooms so early on daffs-- Katherine Hodgkins Iris blooming also. On Saturday they were just up a few inches and on Sunday they were blooming. I'm hoping the cooler weather, as long as it doesn't get too cool, will make them last a bit longer.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've got some little blue irises blooming, too... not sure which ones got planted under that tree, might be Gordon?

Bunnies are eating a lot of the crocuses... some, even before they bloom. Grrrr.

Boy am I jealous of the people south of me. We are at least a week behind in our blossoms and the temp is supposed to go down to 20 degrees tonight. Do you remember those tulips I got $ 1.00 a bag of 12 from Wally World last autumn? They are still in the refrig. When it gets a bit warmer (the ground is thawing nicely now), I will plant them outside & let them bloom naturally. Glad I didn't pot them up.

gee Chantell, you seem to be further along than me too
Here's the little Iris that 'Bammed' me

Things are really popping out here! Sorry, armed with my camera yesterday morning to take photos and the darned battery was dead - both of them! A few blooms of Magnolias, Iris are up, Forsythia popped out yesterday, Daphne's buds have been swelling for weeks and are starting to open and more Daffodils blooming every day :) Even though it's going to be colder over the weekend, overnight lows aren't going below freezing so everything should be happy!

Sally, LOVE that yellow Iris! Do you know which one it is?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

rcn, with hart's help, I believe its danfordiae Only about 4-5 inches tall in all. Then will have long skinny foliage for awhile. Blooms same time as Crocus tommasinianus, I have the darkish purple one which gives a nice color contrast.

You're z6,and I'm 7 but your Forsythia is out~ all very mysterious.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh Sally, That cute little iris, Twice I've planted the reticulated iris and the hardy cyclamen and haven't had any luck with them. Everyday more and more things are popping up. Yesterday I noticed the variegated sedum I put in this bed last year is starting to peek.

I have only one "bulb" of that Iris which blooms, I have other tiny ones that just get leaves. Last year I read something about them, like they need to be planted deeper than I thought, or something...So I'd read more before buying again.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

THAT iris is simply adorable, Sally!!! How cute!! Gotta tell ya'll - I went my our Southern States (feed/gardening store) earlier this week. I simply went to pick up some of that spray I was talking about that apparently helps the plant from losing moisture while rooting. OMG...I walked in and just about started drooling. AN ENTIRE wall of spring bulbs...they had our mystery Jasmine (same hoop - same company)...and more "stuff" to make your plants happy then I could begin to go through. It's like sensory overload, I tell you!!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Loving the new blooms I still just have green poking thru

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Sally, thanks for the ID on the Iris - I've added it to my wish list :) Chantell, lucky you, our Southern States is the pits here, i.e. mainly "feed" store with not much in the way of "gardening" :(

I finally grabbed my camera and got a few pics yesterday morning - probably a good thing because there's SNOW on the ground this morning!!! This is the White Forsythia I told you about Chantell (Abeliophyllum) but a week later the blooms are on their way out and when I checked there was no fragrance :( Always nice to see the bright white blooms first thing in the spring but they're short-lived and I'm not fond of its ugly suckering habit!

Here's the "real" Forsythia blooming just above it.

Poor "naked" Hellebore - lovely flower but no foliage :(

More foliage here but the tough winter certainly wasn't kind to them!

Thumbnail by rcn48
Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Although some people don't like them as much, I love the foliage of Helleborus foetidus. Their foliage wasn't damaged like the others but they are drooping :(

These were just planted last fall so they're small but I think they're going to be my favorite! I like their habit, the flowers are held up instead of down - Double flowers of 'Golden Lotus'.

Last one for this morning - an unplanned combo, my "weedy" Euphorbia pops up everywhere and poor little Tom Thumb is competing for his space under the blue Spruce :)

rcn. nice show. Now I have to have a Cornus mas. Edible for birds and people.
