What's cooking in your garden?

Dale--that's oxalis triangularis not purpurea (the 1st one) and O purpurea is a cape species and will need bone dry summers (I have an extensive cape oxalis collection). Triangularis is basically a summer (late winter/early spring for us) south american species. pops up everywhere out front for me.

O triangularis persists pretty good here--makes a good socks and shoes plant for the tropicals in the front planter box. Or all alone this time of year before the tropical big leaves wake up for the season. At least its something to look at.

But I really like the winter blooming Cape Oxalis species much better--its one of my larger bulb collections.

I love the dainty little white flowers against the purple leaves. Such a great combination!

A couple of TX natives--Stachys coccinea and Manfreda maculosa putting up a bloom spike. This is an area I need to replace the wood edge after 15 years, its along a brick path.

some of the tropicals are up in the front planter boxes--but most are still sleeping. I like some tropicals, but not enough to put them in the ground and let them take over. And this is a tough area about 3' wide between the house and the front walk so it works out well.

it's about 58F and the sun acts like it wants to come out.....maybe

I have some hybrid Hippeastrums and they are alright. But I have an extensive collection of species Hippeastrums I like a lot better, another of my extensive bulb collections. I have about 5 collections that are my favorites.

these two are from Brazil and were seed grown; this one has been blooming a lot longer. I have the seed sources I got these from on FB page if anyone wants more info. Both of these are 4 years old but both bloomed last year, too.

Hippeastrum glaucescens--this one's sending up its 3rd scape now--but this was the first. Look's a little "rattier" now because I need to save seeds on it--they pay a few bills.

This is a Hippeastrum striatum strain with really large blooms--its just getting started, not the greatest shot but lots of scapes coming up on this so it will look good in about a week.

Okay, me too! Maybe we need a thread to exchange FB names. The only people I found were 9kittymom and Sharran.

So who's up? My real (FB) name is Pattie Bethune.

Debbie you mentioned there's a gardening group for folks in this area for sure, right? How do I find them? Or I guess I can always wait until you accept my friend request and go from there...

There's a Dave's Garden group on FB. Just search for Dave's Garden.

Okay, what's FB?

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm already in the DG group. Actually there's two, one official and one unofficial. But I don't know anyone's last names and only recognized those two.

Ah. I'm actually on facebook because of my kids, but I forget to look at it for months at a time.
