is awsome... sorry I can't help you... but I await the answer with you! the bloom picture looks like my cypress vine a little bit..but the following photos took that idea outta my head..

Townsville, Australia(Zone 10a)

The first pic is taken with a cypress vine behind it, just ignore that.

Annette - Welcome to the MG Forum!

Are you sure it is a MG plant? It doesn't look like any I recognize.

mmmm pretty sure it is, the flowers look like a mg close up.

I've never seen spikey-looking seed pods on any MGs.

Maybe Ron will jump on here and let us all know.

It has set a ton of seed so a weedy little bugger......

Hi Annette - Nice photos...

The plant matches Ipomoea coptica var.acuta in all aspects that you have shown with the exception of the white stigma...
Ipomoea coptica is reported to have a pink or red stigma...although it is likely that you have a natural variety with a white stigma...

There is alot of confusion on the web mistaking I.coptica and Merremia dissecta, but they are very different...also the seed photos at the USDA related sites are not accurate...(what else is new)...

Can you post a clear closeup of the seeds (?)...they should be relatively small and greyish / brown color with a covering of fuzz on them...

Ipomoea coptica seems to have originated in Africa and spread to Southern Asia and northern coastal Australia...

Please keep me in mind for a few seeds...

Thanks...

Hi Ron,

Here are a shot of the seeds, they have no fuzz on them, knew that you would know what it could be:)

Plenty of seeds on this baby, m.dissecta has quite large flowers this has small flowers and the foliage is different altogether dont know how this confusion could happen....

Annette - Couple questions...

1) Did you only grow 1 plant and if so were all the stigmas white (?)

2) Do any of the seeds have any pubescence on them at all...even a very light fuzz if held up to a light (?)

Despite the all white stigmas and lack of any pubescence on the seeds , I would still say the plant is Ipomoea coptica var.acuta, (until or unless determined otherwise) although if you offer the seeds for trade or for sale, I would suggest making mention of the all white stigmas and glabrous seeds...

Ron,

I didnt grow the plant, I found the plant growing wild in a football field on an old fence, took cuttings and collected seed.....
