have bought this from Summerhills, does anybody know which kind this is, nil or purpurera or....
Read that it is a bushy kind for container with variegated leafs.

Hi Sylvia... i believe that the Sunsmile series are a type of dwarf I. nil... with variegated leaves and partially split blooms... very nice...

I recall mine having very nice variegated leaves but I did not start my vine until later in season and I did not get any seeds.

Sylvia - Sun Smiles is a mounding I. nil. It is great for hanging baskets or table top bowls. It's not a climbing MG.

Nice photos, Dany! :-)

Joseph - You are correct that it has variegated leaves and is quite attractive. :-)

Sylvia - I grew both Sun Smiles and Kawaii this past year:

Both are mounding, not climbing MGs. The Sun Smiles has the beautiful variegated leaves that I really like. The Kawaii has solid green leaves. Both are perfect for hanging baskets!

Oh for heaven's sake, I'm glad I found this thread. I was wondering why my sun smiles morning glory isn't really vining - and now I know. Mounding is a good description of it's growth habit.

Two years ago I bought seeds at ebay of what I believed were mini-tricolor with a picotee edge. The picture looked similar to the sun smiles, however sun smiles are nils. I started these "tricolor-shaped" seeds again. Sun smile seeds don't look by any chance like a miniature version of tricolor seeds, do they?

I remember I bought the seeds from ecoseeds, but I am not sure if I am allowed to post their picture???

Martin - Sun Smiles seeds look like I. nil seeds. (Which of course, they ARE I. nils!!) LOL!

I am planning to get outside this weekend if it doesn't rain, to start lots of seeds. I need the break from reality. :-)

Is it a difference btw a sunsmile serie and Kawaii ?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Yes, Dany! Sunsmile MGs have variegated leaves and the Kawaii have solid green leaves. I also find that the Kawaii have smaller flowers. And it seems that Sun Smiles comes in a variety of color blooms.

Here is one how definitly don't want to be a vine - hanging basket Beni JMG
the bloom.

The attitude of the plant in the garden, in fact it's really not his place.
