I'll try again.

Gift from DH
I have several more eggs pipping but none have come close to breaking out yet. I'll keep you all updated. (If anyone is interested)
Yes Cajun!! Pretty please!! I'm one of those hunnert-n-seventy odd views that didn't post. Sorry!! Distracted. Not disinterested.
WOW Cajun. Is it out yet? It looked really busy at work on that shell!! Thats one strong chick. PIP PIP HURRAY!
I'm here just slow to post. Waiting eagerly waiting for the chicks.
Hey Wren, hows the hands? and that sweet doggie? LOL
Perhaps Cajun is glued to the hatch...lol. Where are the hatch flappers?
I have been out and about. I now have 3 yellow chicks out which means they are white plymoth rock. The blue aracauna egg was rocking back and forth a lot earlier but no movement now. Another egg is pipping and I can hear peeps from a few more. Nothing from any of the bantam eggs. Hope they are not duds.
Here are chicks 1 and 2. That was seconds after 2 broke out.
How ever did you manage to tear yourself away?! Hope that blue egg baby pops! And I always get breathless waiting for them to figure out where right side up is, lol.
I had to go help the campers get set up. DH is "camping" with DGS in the horse trailer in the barn hall. The trailer has LQs so they are in fine shape. They have water and electricity. Brought the TV and VCR so they are not roughing it but I'm sure DGS will have plenty stories to tell me in the morning. We will be going to the market early and then to the feed store for beet pulp. I'll set the brooder box up in the morning. Couldn't do it tonight because DH has the clamp on lamp in the trailer.
Had to leave my last hatch in the 'bator for similar reasons. They did well. I've started putting my eggs in the bottom of a carton so the floppies don't flop on my pips.
I was wondering if they would hurt the other eggs. They have a lot more room to move around in the bator than they would under a hen.
That was my worry. I've had hatches do very well doing exactly what you're doing now. But I feel better with the carton innovation. Just info before I forget to say anything...;-)
Do you put the unhatched eggs in a carton top?
I have the same incubator. Catscan, I think, posted something about putting them in the bottom of an egg carton so that when they hatch they stay stable instead of doing that scary rolling thing. So in goes the bottom of a carton with eggs in, point down. Then I prop 'em up fat end to the left. Then prop 'em fat end to the right. Then back point down in the carton. Try to end up day 18 with them all sitting that way. She or ZeeZ posted pics somewhere...
Oh how exciting Cajun! Babies!!! They are adorable. I also had the same problem with the newborns playing soccer with the eggs. It didnt seem to stop the hatching eggs but it freaked me out. So my next hatch I am going to try the carton method also. Just for my piece of mind mostly. hehehe I am a wreck when hatching eggs. :o I sure hope the blue egg hatches! My favorite.
This morning I have 6 yellow chicks and 1 black chick. The black is a diminique. No more action on the blue egg. I sure hope it hatches. No action with any of the bantam eggs.
Great job on the first to hatch. Hang in there cajun. I am cheering for the blue as well. What an exciting time. My DD will be so jealous about yourDominique chicken. He name is Dominique and she wants them. hehehe
One of the 2 my little bantam hen hatched is a dominique. Here most folks call them dommers. It looks like a pullet but the white plymoth rock looks like a roo. His comb is larger and darker and I can see where his wattles look to be forming. Oh well. He will be heavy enough to eat so all is not lost.
LOL Do you have a lot of Dominique hens? Thats cool. So you have broodys too? I have three that just sit...and sit...and sit... :D
The only dommer I have is the two chicks. My grown hens are MacCrea Roundheads and bantams. I had put 5 big stock eggs under my little hen. I don't have any setting right now.
Another one is out. Eight so far.
Yay!! I am so glad. Been thinking about that chickie-doodle all day!
Have 9 out now. Two are still in the incubator. I have 7 in the brooder box I put together.
They are doing well. A couple of them seem to have a slightly rusty shade to them as they dry. I wonder if they are RIRs. Could be as they would be a mix of RIR and WPR so they might be lighter than a full stock RIR.
We went to the market today. Saw animals of every age and description. Quails, pigeons, doves, chickens, ducks, turkeys, guineas, rabbits, pigs and dogs. We bought 5 mixed big stock chicks that are a few days old. Figured they were still young enough to put with mine. It worked out well.I got 2 that may be a mix of buff orpington, 2 black ones that may be part dominique and a reddish one with brown stripes on it's back that I have no guess for. We only paid $1.50 each.
Oh they are adorable. How long can they stay in that tub? I've got one that size I'm going to use for mine (if any hatch.) I can hardly wait. On day 5 today. Seeing everybody's pics makes me want them to hurry up and get here. Of course, I've got to go get some feed and some other stuff at Tractor Supply. I love that place.
Cajun, we cross posted. Love yours too. Becky
I'm not sure how long they can stay in the tub. I would think it will be several weeks before they can fly out of it. Then they will graduate to the dog crate in the barn. When they are too big to squeeze through the wire on the chicken yard, I will put them out with the flock.
What kind of eggs are you hatching? This is a first time thing for me as far as the incubator goes. We've always had chickens.
I got mutt Wyandottes from a lady on e-bay. 19 in the bator. My first time to hatch and my first chickens. I got an incubator for an early anniversary gift. I am so hooked I'm already thinking about the next hatch. Of course, if a lot of these hatch, I won't have room for any more. I'll have to find homes for any roos anyway. Not sure the neighbors would understand the crowing. But who knows, I might get real attached to one. My son wants a rooster for his backyard. We'll see if he's really serious.
Oh gosh please try not to open the bator! The pipped ones will dry out so fast.. the bottom of the bator looks really dry..
Congrats on your hatch! They are darling!!
Does the blue egger have dark legs?
Good luck on the rest. :)
The store bought ones don't look much bigger. Looks like they'll get along fine.
LOL Don't know why that post took so long. LOL weird..
You have such a darling lil group of fuzziez..
The reservoirs are full. There is no pipping in any of the remaining eggs. It seems we are at a standstill. With the eggs that have hatched, I could either hear peeping inside the eggs or hear scratching. I don't hear anything from the remaining eggs but they do have a different feel to them. They seem to be weighted on the pointed ends. Also when I hold them to my ear and gently tap on them with my fingernail, they sound hollow. I have compared it to a fresh egg and the sound is totally different so we will see.
The blue egger's legs don't look any darker than the others. But the two black chicks I got at the market have black spots on their leggs and feet. I wonder what that indicates.
bec
There is hadly any difference in the sizes. I don't think the others can be but a few days old. They are getting along fine. I am happy about that.
Give them at least another 24 hours--I reached in today to clean out some eggs that I thought weren't going to hatch....I had messed up and forgot to turn the turner off on day 18 so they didn't stop turning till day 20 and I thought all was lost. They should have hatched yesterday, but no sign. So today I thought I would just toss them. When I picked one up it started peeping madly and I saw it had pipped. On closer inspection, one other was pipping. Since then two have hatched and another just pipped--that is three out of five. I really thought they were goners.
I'll give them more time. Likely a week should be enough. Maybe they are late bloomers. Galloway, my BC, is very interested in the chicks. I think it bothers him, more like worries him, that he has no control over where they go. He's not programed for that. LOL
