Devota's StrawberryTower
I said in the March 17th post, "since the water comes out gently I didn't need the diffuser." WRONG! Even a small amount of water will uncover the roots sooo forget I said that. I put the diffusers back up there, [after I replaced some washed out coir.]
Yep. I told you and told you and told you.......but would you listen to me.........NO!!!! Gezzzz. LOL I learned that long ago.....but it hasnt stopped me from repeating the same misstake. Here is a photo of the top pot in one of my verti=grow poles. I have lifted the diffuser pot so you can see what happened. Too much water in the diffuser pot too fast and it has floated some of that soft fluffy coir mix right up and out of the pot. The diffuser pot just dug itself a hole when the water was put in too fast. That little dripper hanging down there is not hooked up to the automatic watering system at this time. I have just been watering the poles with a watering hose with an adjustable nozzle.
Hey Jay, drippers are kewl looking whether or not they are hooked up.LOL
Gardening is fun! I am already behind in planting. I guarantee it won't be this way next year. Yeah, right.
Jerry
Ha ha ha...Jay...you told me so. I never get anything right the first time, never. I see from your pix what you are talking about, you little Texas stobber, you.
Jerry get back out there and garden, dang it!
Here is a better shot showing how too much water caused the diffuser pot to dig itself a hole and coir to float out of the pot.
Those two drippers hang down from an overhead 1/2 inch water/fertilizer line that I will hook back up to the automatically timed watering system soon. Why two drippers per grow pole you ask? Im glad you asked.:-) I have four of those verti-grow poles. Depending on what is planted in the poles, some poles will require more water than others. Since the automatic timer controls flow to all 4 poles at the same time, I needed some way to adjust water flow to each individual pole as needed. One adjustable dripper wasn't working out too good so I added another one. Having two adjustable drippers just allows me to better control how much water each individual pole gets as they are all receiving water for the same amount of time. This worked out good for a multi-pole system. One year, I had one pole just loaded with huge "Stock" flower plants. They required much more water than the other 3 poles. I took one adjustable dripper off and just let the 1/4 inch line run full force. That did the trick. So you can see where having two adjustable sources of water per pole gives you more control of your water/fertilizer.
Bob uses a stake with an adjustable sprayer on it to water his grow bags. The spray is adjustable from a drip to a small circle of a few inches and up to a 3 to 4 foot circle. That is a good application of water/fertilizer that wont blow your grow mix away.
Yes, Jay, I see.
I have a simple system with the pond pump but the pump was too forceful and I didn't want to buy another so I made a manifold out of a couple of "Y" hose connecters. I adjusted the flow by turning the on/off
things on the "Y" connecters to the "just right" place and just like Goldilocks I went away happy.
Virginbred: Yes, I love your set up.

Devota.........here is a picture of my new automatic watering system. Im just letting the 1/4 inch line run full blast but it is tie wrapped to the center mounting pole in such a way that it can only squirt straight down beside the pole. No harm, no foul, no blowed out grow mix.
Actually, I have an ulterior motive (as usual) in this unique design. I am going to take a coffee filter, put some pellet type slow release fertilizer in it and wrap a rubber band around the top to close it, creating a nutrient baggie. This little baggie of nutrients will be placed beneath the little 1/4 inch water hose. Water flowing through the baggie of nutrients will cascade down through the poles, fertilizing all plants and causing them to burst forth in all their natural beauty. I am in totally secret negotiations with a chemical engineer to design a baggie that will be green when nutrients are at full force, to gradually turn yellow as their values decrease and turn red when they are no longer viable. Remember not to tell anyone because it is a secret.
Out of the goodness of my heart, I have decided to let the members of this forum get in on the ground floor of this wonderful financial opportunity to buy stock in the new company I am forming. It will be called JAYWHACKER'S SQUIRTILATOR FERTILATOR SYSTEM. Get in on the ground floor while you can. Once Wall Street gets wind of this, the stock price will skyrocket. It is estimated that this one product along will break the back of this recession and lead America back to its glory days. Dont get left behind!!! There will only be a two week window of opportunity to get in on this amazing deal.
Jay, I am on my way to the patent office or I would stay and chat with you.
