Thoroughly enjoyable thread, Elphaba. Thanks.

Yay, another Houstonian inspired by Chris to take the trip to Brazos Bend! Yippee! It is interesting to see everything you spotted a few weeks after my own trip down there (I went on Feb 4th). Everything you saw was pretty much the same for me.... except the spoonbills! **I am so jealous!**

I for sure need to go back, seeing as how you and Chris saw the spoonbills recently. And I still want to find the vermillion flycatcher I was after in the 1st place! Did you happen to spot one? I also see that he spotted sandhill crane. Were they around for you?

I did not see Sandhill Cranes or the Vermillion Flycatcher! I was dying to see both. I only saw the Spoonbills at 40 acres lake, but I saw them there in the morning and then I stopped again on my way out in the early evening and I saw them again. That was where they told me at the gate that they had last seen a Bald Eagle. I really wanted to see one of those too - darn it!

I went last year in May and I saw a lot more varieties of herons. I also saw two Mississippi Kites at that time but I didn't see any this time. I took some different trails though. I'm wondering when the alligator's eggs hatch. I'd love to see baby alligators!

Chris told me that I have to go to the San Bernard Wildlife Refuge. It's a little further but I just have to get there. I read that it's best in the winter and it's supposed to have Sandhill Cranes.

Oh I don't think I want to be there when the alligators are mating/nesting/parenting !!! They are so aggresive then (according to ALL the signs posted in the park).

BALD EADLE? Are you kidding me! Ok now I am definently going again. SOON.

Hello Elphaba. I see you made it to Brazo Bend. I was there on 2/26 (thanks for the tip) and shot lots of birds also. Such a huge park but not enough time. I spent a lot of time at the 40 acre lake. I've been processing the pictures but no time to upload them yet. Btw, now I don't have to post in the ID forum since you've name them - thanks. And yes, lots of Yellow Rumped Warblers.

Also while in Houston I visited the Houston Arobretum (again thanks for the tip). I got some good shots of what looks to be a Pine Warbler.

Folks if you're in Houston, TX you've got to go to Brazon Bend park - it's amazing.

I wish I could've visited the park on the weekend and in the early morning. I could've stayed all day but I had a co-worker with me.

Well I'm heading to Long Beach next week and looking for a birding spot there. Can anyone help out?

Take care all
