My shrub has produced several stolons. When's the earliest I can shovel prune them so I can pot them up? These are evergreen in my area.

Only "several"? Lucky you! I really liked this Buddleia but it's become something of a thug in our gardens. It's a constant battle to keep it in bounds and alas one of these days I might just yank it :( I've never "shovel pruned" this plant but considering your location I'd think now would be perfect, the sooner the better!
yes,I read it can be rather a handful at a young age but also read that it slows down on making suckers as it ages. I think there's only about 3 suckers on it at the moment. That could change with warmer weather.

LOL, well this one has been in the gardens for almost 10 years and it's still not slowing down! Maybe I'll give it a chance for a few more years :)
