If you know any willing gardeners in Berkeley or willing to travel to Berkeley to have their own little garden patch to work, please let me know:
My disability has gotten worse and made garden maintenance much harder while simultaneously taking away my income so I can't hire anyone to do it for me. I have 3 large raised beds in my backyard that get good sun for the majority of the day (I have a long yard with a north-south orientation). I'm looking for someone trustworthy who can help me weed, mulch, and plant annuals in return for a fair amount of land in the raised beds to do their own annual planting. The rest of my yard consists of edible landscaping with perennials. I run a mostly organic garden and would want someone with that orientation. A permaculture orientation is even better.
I'm located in southwest Berkeley. Let me know if you'd be interested or know someone else who would.
Disabled Gardener in Berkeley, CA Needs Help
Spidra, Linda here, from Fresno. I'm just kinda thinking out loud here.
I'm wondering if you've thought of contacting the university or some of the nearby teaching facilities for assistance. I'm thinking that there may be students of an ag- or plant biology-oriented school who might appreciate the opportunity to have some growing space in a controlled environment to practice their "art."
Hmmm, another thought . . . a retired person who wants to grow but doesn't have the space to do so at his/her own home/apartment? AARP? A church parish?
Like I said, thinking aloud. ACK, but then I'm a social worker, afterall, and am always trying to find ways to get help to those who need it. It's difficult, I know. And I know how quickly the space gets out of control when you're unable to take care of it when the season demands it. I'm sorry to hear you're finding the management of your wonderful organic garden so difficult.
Warmly, Linda
Thanks, Linda. I emailed a teacher at Merritt College whose class I once took but he hasn't responded. I may try seeing if I can get someone interested in this exchange via Hyperlocavore, a new yardsharing site. Most people sharing their yards don't ask for anything in return, it seems, so I'm not sure if anyone will go for it. But we'll see.

As it is, I'm starting more things to be in containers I can have on my deck, which should be easier to take care of by myself if it comes to that. Thanks for your reply!
