Starting F2 wave petunia seeds.

Green River, WY

Last fall I saved seeds from my Purple Wave petunias (an F1 hybrid). Mid January I planted in a soiless mix in a flat. From that I saved the 90 best plants and now have 85 that survived the transplant and are thriving in the peat cubes. I started them early so they can get a bloom or two before I start moving them to pots (Since they are F2s, it is a bit of a crap shoot as to what I will get). Anyway, 85 plants is probably about 65 or 70 more than I need, so there should be some decent ones.....and the price is right!

Last year I planted saved seed from some pink waves & they came true. I was quite surprised.

Wave Putunias are very invasive here. I have sprayed with roundup for the past 5 years. This year I sprayed with brush killer. The stuff is still green. I hate the stuff.

Sorry about your petunia problem Smokey, up in MA we don't have that to worry about. Our winters are frigid with lots of snow!!!

What's so bad is that I love Petunias! They just chock my other plants.

I love Petunia's but have had very little luck with germinating from seed packs - where do you find seeds on them as I assume you collected your own?
