this is so much fun!

This is my first time sowing anything under lights inside.

On 2/16, I sowed some pink wave petunias and serena purple angelonia. They both started to sprout on 2/22, and the angelonia has its first pair of true leaves.

On 2/19, I sowed some blue wave petunias, which started to sprout on 2/23 - they are still really tiny but still alive.

On 2/21, I sowed impatiens (xtreme lilac, lavender blue, envoy rose)
They started coming up on 2/26 and look healthy.

On 2/21, I also sowed some vinca hybrids (cora deep lavender, heat wave red, cora punch, mediterranean white). I had them on a heating mat with a dome on them with newspaper on top to keep them in the dark. I checked under the dome on 2/23, not expecting to see anything, but they were sprouting! I actually thought that I had killed these to damping off when they first sprouted, because the sprouts were long white and kind of bent, but once I moved them under the lights they stood up and opened their cotyledons. Unfortunately, I pulled quite a few out just to see what they looked like b/c I was so sure that I had killed them. So, I lost some to my own learning experience.

On 2/23, I sowed verbena hybrids (peaches and cream, burgundy, tuscany violet, and orchid frost) and am keeping them in the dark by putting the bottom of one of the black trays that the 72 packs come in on top of them, and I'm just starting to see white little sprouts today (2/27).

This seed starting thing is really fun. I hope that these little guys survive!
Just thought I'd share my joy at seeing some green with you guys.

I'm going away for the weekend, so I'm a little worried about not being able to attend to these guys while I'm away. I plan to give them a good bottom-watering tomorrow morning before we leave, and hope for the best.

It is fun and a great way to have a lot of plants without spending too much. I like to swap seedlings with friends to get a good variety of plants

I too have been bitten by the seed bug. I started last year with tomatoes and now I have two sets of shelving with 16 lights and enough room to grow 32 flats. I find the hardest thing to do is to throw out left over seedlings.

ncdirtdigger. Oh my. That's a lot of flats! I'm having trouble keeping track of 5! You're going to have a beautiful garden.
